Let1Hang,

Thank you so much for explaining something in a manner which is easily understood. (at least to me)
I've been having such a difficult time over the past few months trying to learn a more proper method of turning the ball. Apparently my hand can not tell time very well as my release has been so inconsistant. But this really turned on the light bulb so to speak. I shot a 600 last night for the 1st time in a very, very long time in my THS league. (161/254/185)
I wasn't very consistant but considering I just read this post yesterday and only tossed a couple of balls into my lounge chair at home for practice, I'm fairly satisfied. Not only did my ball turn pretty good... but I had no pain in my wrist or fingers which is what started the whole "change" process from a side-hand/lift shot to a wrist-twister. I never could get the hand turn reliable and it gave me alot of wrist pain(tendonitis even) as I naturally tend to cup when trying to keep my hand behind the ball. And all that started when I began getting too good a lift out of my side-hand shot causing my fingertips to burn and blacken, feeling like the skin was being ripped right off the bone. (working with driller to shorten span and tweak pitch)
Anyway, I'm sure like any change it will take quite a bit of work to get consistant... but no pain + ball turns = Happy Taco. smile
1 question though.
I noticed last night I could hear my ball really moving down the first 1/2 to 2/3's of the lane. And I think it was rolling over my thumb hole a bit.
Does this mean I'm "popping" too early? Late?
Am I not keeping my hand far enough behind the ball?
What do you think may be causing this?

Thanks again for the help!!
I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now.
Maybe someday I won't have to endure all the old ladies in the league smack-talkin' me into the corner w/my blankie. laugh

Welcome to the site spaz, I'm not sure what you mean by "popping", but if the ball is rolling over the thumb hole it usually means you are turning the ball too soon, and your wrist is in a weak position on the top of the ball at the release.

Yeah... was kinda thinking that.
What I meant by the "popping" was the uncup/recover move Let1 and untutored were describing. I'm sure I need to work on it more. Like I said, last night was the 1st try.
So basically... I'm not recovering quickly enough and/or probably not keeping my hand far enough behind the ball.
Thx Coach... I'll definitely work on that.

Spaz,

I'm glad that I could help you even though I still cannot perfom it myself. I haven't had much practice time to work on the physical side of my AH-HA moment. Sometimes its a mental block that kills any forward progress and sometimes a nudge in the right direction is all one needs. I wish you the best on getting to that light at the end of your tunnel.
