I realize this may seem a tad premature, however I know my teammates and I are already discussing fall/winter league options and I assume you guys n gals are as well.

As for myself, I'm doing fairly well in my current Sunday night league and plan to up my local activity to two leagues, come September. Quite honestly, once a week just doesn't satisfy our cravings for fun competition ;-)

I'll be seeking out a scratch league, if available, and bowling with the same 3 teammates in whatever handicap league we can find that suits our schedules. Shoot, Sunday nights may still be a good bet.

So, how about it? :-)

My wife wants to bowl in a less competitive league this winter and I’d like to bowl in a Have-a-ball league to get a third ball.

Yeah signs are up in the center, flyers are out, and announcing during league that winter/Fall leagues are now forming. Right now im doing my Thursday Handicap Mix league. I would like to do pba expeirence league but there not offering it on the days i can get to the center. There is a very competeive scratch league on fridays but not sure if im ready to put down $30+ a week for that when everyone in that league is averaging 200+.

I had two leagues lined up, both competitive one a men's league and the other a mixed league, with the possibility of a second competitive men's league. Well due to lack of consistent work for most of the year I've decided to not bowl this season, at least the beginning. Even if I get back to work on a full time basis soon, I have other things that need to be taken care of. I plan on practicing and getting coached with some of the money I'll save from not doing leagues, and maybe do some subbing.

I will return to my league that I restarted in, 4 years ago, with the same teammates on Wednesday. I will also bowl in a competitive league at another house on Tuesday. I also received a call from the Classic Men's Monday night league, that I have been on the waiting list for 2 years. But, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday may take its toll in succession. Monday may lose out due to it has an early start, 6 pm, and it is tough to get to.

I also sub in 2 Friday night leagues. First come, first served. One is an Invitational league on PBA shot, while the other is a Social League.

Mon, Wed, Fri is my preference. But, it will probably be Tues, Wed and Fri. as it was last year.

I spoke with the wife the other day. I am clear to bowl this season. Now that we have a routine with the kids, she said that she would be fine with me bowling for the fall/winter. I am probably going back to my old league. Through people shifting around, it looks like I am going to have a really solid team. The 2 ladies are good bowlers with us. Then, it will be myself and a buddy of mine from college who hasn't bowled in a few years. When he did, he was the best on our team. He has subbed a couple of times this summer. I give him about a month before he is back averaging over 215. The 5th spot is going to be rotating between 3 people again. They average 210, 195, and 185. I have a feeling that there are going to be a lot of upset people in the house when we start up again after Mark gets back on Track. Oh well.

GP-
They have a choice: get better, or get run over. That's how it is in life, too. Hope it's a good time!

With a lovely new bride to dote upon love, I'll be bowling in one house shot league (Eglin AFB IM's usaribbon) only but also in a PBA regional and perhaps another tournament or two. I was a better-than-scratch golfer, but I've given that up in favor of spending time with her and the lesser time commitment of bowling. It's a compromise she's happy with.

My fall/winter bowling status is a bit up in the air right now, but my brother seemed to indicate that if some of my services continue as they are now, I may be able to bowl the fall/winter season. I don't know if my cousins will be bowling in the Friday night TNBA league again, but I'm leaning toward bowling in the Wednesday night Westgate Mixed league, which is pretty much the same people that run my summer league. It would be good to bowl with my cousins, but I've developed a good Wednesday night routine, and I've enjoyed riding home with my summer teammate, Brian, and I believe he's bowling the Wednesday night league, so I'll be sure of getting a ride from him, anyway.

Chubbs:

Congrats on getting married. Your well on your way if you are already compromising smile

This is an odd league. They all talk about how much fun it should be but then get upset when good bowlers come in. I am looking forward to the nights when the 3 of us are together and our games are on. The cool thing is that you can win multiple high game/series awards as long as they are not shot on the same nights.

If all goes well and I get good results back from my surgery tomorrow my Fall is already set. Tuesday is a competitive 4 per team league (mostly men, 2 female). The other is Weds night mixed for fun, both leagues are at my local lanes and a more difficult inconsistent shot. Every other day is spoken for with either work or other responsibilities not allowing me to bowl. I'm sure I'll find time to squeeze a lil practice in there as well.

Congrats Chubbs, and good news from most everyone here saying they'll likely be bowling in fall/winter.

I'm feeling much more "in the groove" lately, and am going to continue working on becoming increasingly consistent via follow-through. Fall/winter seems to be shaping up nicely, with my THS average floating around 200.

Much obliged for the well-wishes, gents! thumbsup The big day is just over a week away now! She's not a bowler, but I think she's warming up to it a little bit ball. She does understand that I need a competitive outlet, though, which is good.

Well. I don't want to brag or show off but I have a good feeling that I am all there this time around.

Quit league play for various of reasons from work to mental but now I got myself more lessons and understand what I can do and starting to get an idea of how many hand positions, angle, spare game and everything going.

I am not hoping for anything but I do know this is the year that I can bowl my heart out and enjoy it thru the ups and downs.

Plus, looking toward bowling high games and carry those low games but in the end.. I want to be the best bowler that I can be. Who know? Could be trying out for the USBC Masters and PBA Tour Trial next summer and probably get into some first-time tournament since I am chasing a dream and it will take a lot of focus and hard work.

Congrats on the nuptials Chupps. Hope you and your soon to be wife have a great day.

As for the winter leagues, I will be returning to my Wednesday, and Thursday night leagues as well as a Saturday night league with the wife, that meets every other week. I am looking forward to having a great year, and meeting my goal of averaging 200. I have come close at 193, but I am going to surpass that this year.
Maybe even getting another 300 along the way...lol... wink

I have decided, Monday is out. Just don't see making a 6 pm start every week. Too bad, since I really wanted to bowl in this league. But, I can't be fair to the team if I can't get to the lanes on time.

The Wed night league has me stymied, and I plan to beat it this year. The house clearly has a tougher shot. It averages 10 pins under the other men's leagues in the Association. I have been at low to mid 190's in the past. This is the year I bump the 200 mark at this center.

This is strange, since I averaged 203 in the same house Sport league 2 years ago. It is the house shot that I have trouble with.

Exactly the attitude you should take...just do your best and let the proverbial chips fall where they may. laugh

I actually logged on to post my own little bit of good news...after talking to my brother about my financial situation, I got the green light from him to bowl this winter season. I will be informing my summer league secretary, who is also the secretary for the Westgate Mixed winter league on Wednesday nights, that I intend to bowl in that league. Just hope I'm able to get on a team. laugh

Looks like things are coming together well for my friends and I! There is strong interested from everyone for fall/winter and I believe I'll get the best of both worlds by bowling in a competitive and for-fun league on different nights. Some local tourneys are in the plans as well...

On a side note...anyone planning on drilling new pieces for fall/winter? Any specific ball choices? I believe I'll be sticking with my Toxic 15#, and maybe picking up a Gravity Shift by Christmas time.

Got the particulars about my league in the fall...league meeting on Aug. 27 @ 7:00 PM, first session Sept. 3 @ 6:30 PM.

I had been hoping to hook up w/ 2 of my summer teammates (our female bowls in Florida in the winter) on their friend's team, but they only need a female now. In light of that, I told Donna, the league secretary, that she could feel free to place me on any team that needs me.

Two of my teammates won’t be bowling in the fall. I might be able to pick up someone to join a threesome’s mixed league. I was hoping to join a have-a-ball league but the house I like isn’t offering any until winter. I might look for a league in another house, but this one is closest to my home and they charge $0.99 per game for league members during open bowling (except on dollar night).

I'm all settled on leagues for the fall/winter and feel good about how it worked out, scheduling-wise.

I'll be in a 4-member competitive league Wednesday nights, and a 4-member casual on Sunday evenings smile (Sunday is basically the fall version of the summer league I've been bowling in)

Time to pick up a spare ball soon...

It turns on that the guy who replaced me last season is coming back. I am still on the team but the 3rd male spot is going to be rotating between 2 maybe 3 friends. I was hoping that it would be the 3 of us full time. Oh well. Should still be fun. My league meeting is next Wednesday and we start the following week. I am really looking forward to it.

120 miles round trip. Considering I put $30 in my tank every 2 weeks or so, you would completely blow my gas budget.

Suppose to bowl a 4 man 845 scratch on Mondays but we still need a 4th and with a 209ave or below with 2yrs history on the books too. I'm a 206 book, my two buddies are 208 and 209 but lack the 2yr history so have to come in as 215 which is fine cuz they can hold that. The guy running the league said found us someone but we couldn't find him on the USBC listings.

Also going to bowl a 16wk PBAX league at a different house on thursday. Both leagues are 9pm which kinda sucks cuz I won't get home til late. Gonna be interesting for me to bowl on those patterns, and looking foward to the battle

Sunday morning doubles. Wound up meeting a guy respectively around my age who likes to bowl.

I wonder if I should be surprised to hear that there will be some PBAX leagues around the Baltimore Area. I was told there will be one at Kings Point and Country Club (of course if they are having a tour stop consistently). Kings Point is closer but I was told and I'm sure that Country Club keeps their place in order unlike Kings Point. If Brunswick Normandy has one I may just go there but I don't like the flying pins they have.

Rest will be practice and tourneys. Time to get the feet wet.

Country Club ran one this past season, a single's league but I don't think it was a full season, maybe 20-24 weeks. As I live just minutes from there, I occasionally go there and it is well kept, amazing for and AMF in the area. They have a good Pro Shop there as well that is open seven days a week. Its pretty roomy for a one sided center.

I've only been to King's Point once and that was last summer either right before or right after they put new lanes in. The condition sucked but it was the second shift of the Summer Doubles Tour. It felt a little crowded to me and thats just 4 people per a pair.

I got a call from the Monday nite league pres last night. They had their meeting, and I was on the list, then scratched off. He called to confirm that I was off, then asked me again to reconsider. I again told him I couldn't make the 6 pm start and declined.

I went to the lanes at 7:30 to practice PBA, and he was there. We talked. He asked if I could be listed by some team as a sub. I don't see how I could make that either.

So, I will stick with Tues, Wed, and sub on Fri. Practice on Thurs, and once on the weedend.

I haven't checked in for ages, but I kept up bowling over the summer on two leagues; one was an accuracy league. It had a rotating schedule of a US Open pattern, a 46' gutter to gutter one, and a 36' shorty. Needless to say I'm looking forward to my two Fall house shot leagues.

Monday and Wednesday nights, 4 person teams. I'll be substituting on Tuesdays/Fridays, and taking lesson/practice sessions on Saturday. My BWS has completely died so this transition period would be a good time to look for a new main go-to ball. I'm currently looking at the Twisted Fury, or the new BW Venom. We'll see. I'm looking to continue my trend of improving my average by 10 pins on each consecutive league I've bowled since I started. High 180s or a 190+ average between my two fall/winter leagues is my goal. I think it's quite logical in relation to how I've been bowling.

A young gun (my age) around our house just got his Level I coaching certification over the summer and we picked up a new digital camcorder and plugged it in to MotionView for lessons he'll be doing. I helped him set it up and we tried it out. I never knew I kind of "side-armed" the ball. I need to tighten my swing, stay closer to my body, and stay under the ball throughout the entire motion. Things to work on for sure.

Hey Sherman, long time no hear. Can't answer the ball questions. What works for one is not necessarily what words for another. I stay away from those discussions.

But, isn't it amazing to really see yourself on video? Sometimes, you look so different than what you thought you do. It would to do this periodically, and check your progress.

http://www.bowlsk.com/games/view-series.html?series=6555

Series recap: First night. We bowled the vacant team, which meant we needed to hit our average to win each game. One guy on the team had no sanctioned average, so he came in at 200, even though he is a 155 bowler. We stepped it up, taking all 7 points. I got beat in the 2nd round of brackets, 225-219. I was still in the Eliminator, so I may have some cash coming to me next week.

Being that we bowled the vacant team, and I ended up as deep as I did by the end of the game, I'm going to really have to a) get the avalanche polished up (it's at 2000 now) and b) get comfortable throwing a lot faster, or in front of the ball return.

Can you take it to 4000? How was the reaction when you had it there originally?

It came rough buff in the box. I liked it there, but not on the PBA patterns. Took it to 4000 and it reacted nearly identically. However, for the Scorpion and Shark I took it to 2000. I'd like to take it back to the rough buff to get it to store more energy on the house shot - I was up against the ball return in game 3 with just 4 righties on the pair, and my carry was suffering. When we bowl against someone next week, I will need to be prepared. to play real deep, and have enough energy to get back and carry.

If you need to play that deep on a house shot, sounds like you may need to add another lighter oil ball to your arsenal.

looks like my winter plans changed a bit, Just going to bowl the one scratch league and instead of doing the PBAX league, I'll save that money and roll it over into a tourny a month. Would give me good exp points and also a better chance to make more money.

Good call on the scratch league, J. Are the PBAX leagues in your area actual PBA patterns? I know it's hard to find a legit PBAX league in my area.

iduno man, the house that it's at is a flood everynight, so I doubt they will take the time to strip off their flood and lay down the right pattern. it's gonna be their first time doing this league too so we'll see how it works. We're regulars there so the owner knows us and keeps us informed on the hoop.

Started my Wednesday mens league with a pretty lackluster outcome. We have 4 bowlers establishing averages so we only won 6 out of 30 points. I took 2 of those in game one. I shot 582 is all but still ended up 3rd highest that night. I guess coming in with a 194 has its benefits. I had a hard time getting any backend out of my equipment because I polished the [censored] out of my equipment. Today I am going to sand them down and take the polish off, so maybe I can get an earlier read and more consistent backend.
