I'm kind of a tweener. I used to bowl full roller and I've seen my game really pick up since the transition in style. I'm on the same quest as you are so I'll be watching. I'm hoping the Robbys's Revs III I ordered will help me out some.

Yea in away I would like to get a wrist thing like that but in away i dont know if it would be good or not, because im only 17 and have dreams of going pro.... Thats just what I want to do I mean I bowl 5-6 times a week sometimes even 7. Everyone tells me that then only way to get perfect or near perfect with accuracy is just practice, and i mean well thats all i do, and still miss my mark quite often. I just wish I could find me a really good coach that would really work with me and get me better, im around a 180 average bowler but want to try to get up to the 200+ avg asap.

Besides all the attention you are giving hand and wrist. There are a few things that need to be in place to gain revs.
1. Balance at the line and release point. In other words you need to be able to post the shot.
2. A good finish position that is low and stays low. No popping up or raising up at the line.
3. Timing that has the release as close to the sliding ankle as possible.
You can do these things without messing with your release.
At 17 you are a bit behind but then not so much. If you bowl Jr. Gold tournaments and get as much experience as possible on various lane conditions that is great. But you probably should engage a private coach that will cost you/your folks money but will be well worth the money.

well in away im a little behind, But ive only been bowling since I was 13 and i quit for awhile. SO im not like some people who have bowled since they were 5, and I mean I get compliments on how good I roll the ball from coaches and one college coach so I must be doing something right, and 180 I wouldnt say is that bad, people around where I live about my age carry around the same avg give or take a little. And im about to start getting private lessons from Bellarmine Universitys coach Dug barker.

erin is right on the staying low and not popping up at the line. the one thing i worked on monday with my coach was popping up and staying low. balance is hard to do but got to work on it or you want get the accuracy that you want. i have a brace and its an Ebonite. Storm makes a good one to and Brunswick makes one that lets you adjust the wrist position. coaches are like a turning point in bowling you'll have a better game when you use one. just check at your Pro Shop and see if any are coaches or if they know any. it will help. i use one.

I've met Dug. We used to belong to the same internet bowling group " bags On Balls" back in the late 1990's. We both contributed articles to that site. Dug's articles concentrated mostly on teaching youth bowlers.

We have a 12 year old girl in our center that averages 197. Most of our higher level Jrs that are going habitually to Jr Gold and other various tournaments are at the 200+ level. Most of the more dedicated ones are also involved in the PBA Exp. league, Jr Gold Scratch league and the dual house league (alternating houses). Its more that these kids are constantly attending tournaments, whether they be NorCal youth, Jr. Gold, PBA Exp league or city youth tournaments. As well as any available clinics like the CATs clinic in Manteca with Gold coach Rod Ross or the Lanemasters clinics with various silver coaches. There's always something going on and they participate in as many events they can.
The game has changed because these opportunities are now there for youth bowlers. 30 years ago, good luck finding such depth of help for promising youth bowlers. Today's youth are taught how to bowl from the first day they step on the lane. 30+ years ago, they just bowled, and there really wasn't any high level coaching. Of course back then the bio mechanics of bowling were not as well known as they are today. Today, kids start out with fundamentals and basics that are far beyond what they would have been "taught" 30 years ago. Our program has 100% certified coaches. Of those coaches two are silver, around 3 to 5 are Bronze and the rest are Level 1 or 2.
So if you are a youth bowler and you want to get up the ladder of bowling, you will need a good Jr program, individual coaching at a young age and then tournament experience on a variety of lane patterns (which didn't happen 30+ years ago). You know that 30 years ago, the lane pattern was what it was in each center. You didn't have Viper, Cheetah, Scorpion etc......no lane graphs, no tips for scoring. And if people did know tricks of a particular center they were not sharing it with anyone that asked.
Its unfortunate that many promising youth bowlers do not have the support of a strong Jr program in their local centers. And USBC if working hard to change that.
As I mentioned before, If you have an opportunity to get good coaching take it. All we can do is field questions from someone we cannot see bowl in person, and have to take their personal description of the issues. So yo have the opportunity, let him guide you and go from there. Get a coach.
Erin
