So I got the two new balls and it seems pretty appearant that my release won't allow the ball to break right. Well with the Kinetic at least, the Dimension is a hooking monster so far.

I have been using a Pro adjustable device for a long time, I bought it like 10 years ago when I was in Youth league. I bought it because back then cuz I broke my wrist so many times that after 2 games I could no longer throw the ball. I got back into bowling 2 winter ago with the 7-8years off, so I just used the device like when I was younger.

With the device on I got a habit of pointing my pointer finger straight ahead, so my hand is cocked to the 10 oclock before the back swing starts. I'm also unloading the ball from under it in this position. With the Kinetic the ball doesn't flip this way and just arcs a bit. I threw a few more time trying to get behind the ball and having my ring finger pointed at 12 oclock or diectrly behind the ball when I release. I found the Kinetic ball seems to "break right" this way (go longer then flip to the pocket). The problem with this and the device, the ball has to be pushed out like a foot to the right and the ball is no longer dropping straight down from my normal swing. Just to get the thumb in the right position behind the ball.

I had 10 minutes left in my hour of practice and tried without the device. It was easier to get my hand in the right position from swing to the release. I didn't have to push the ball off to the right I just can't get under the ball like I could with the device, but was still able to get good revs off my hand which kinda surprised me. I think I'm gonna go throw a few more games tonight at my normal house and practice more without the device.

jsigone, if you have trained your wrist with the wrist support properly, and have good wrist strength, there should be little difference using it or not. Just be careful of a weak slackening without it. Keep your hand cupped and ready. if you run into that problem, strap it back on and use it as a training device.

Without the device it is easier to stay under the ball if your hand is under the ball from start to finish: ie ring and middle fingers at 5:30 - 6:00. Also with your hand at 5:30 - 6:00 it is easier to clear your right leg on the downswing as opposed to 10 o'clock using the device and pushing the ball out to the right.

Since your goal is to have your hand under and behind the ball at the release point, setting your hand in that position while in your stance and keeping it there during the approach should work. Keeping the inside of your elbow facing your target line from start to finish will also help in keeping your hand behind the ball and prevent you from turning your hand prematurely.

yah to my surprise my wrist was strong without the device. I guess the main problem was cupping the ball and where to time cupping the back coming down from the back swing. Or should I cup it from start to finish. Since the device was already locked in the cupping position I never had to worry about it. I got it right once last night and felt good power through my fingers as I released the ball.

Yes the main goal is to still remain under the ball be more behind with hand tilted inwards. I guess it's just going to be alot of practice. Just a toss up if I should try it on league nights as well.

man bad habits are hard to break. I threw 6 games for practice today without the wrist device and with only the new balls + plastic. My first couple games I treid every shot without the hand tilt and trying to stay behind the ball. Seemed to work well at first, then on one of the releases of hte early 2nd game, I pinched a nerve or something. My fingers tingled for a few minutes. After that I was no longer to stay under and directly behind the ball without feeling like I was shoving the ball off my hand and no lift at all.

In the middle of the second game, I switched back to my hand tilt inward but without my device. I found I have much more control over the ball this way and still was able to get the same amount of revs if I had the device on. I can do so without having the muscle the ball either which is nice. 3rd game I threw only the Dimension, threw a 256 standing 45 breakpoint at teh 6,7,8. Fourth game I switched to the Kinetec and threw 245 standing 40 breakpoint 5,6. Fifth game the lanes started to break down and I couldn't get the kinetic to the breakpoint without going brook or flattening out. I switched back the Dim and started to play the inside line. Stood at 46-47 and drift left a bit, threw at middle arrow and breakpoint around the 12 board. I spent the rest of the games playing this line and getting use to throwing inside like that.

Overall I think I don't need to wear the wrist device any more. I'll have to save my wrist for dryer days where I need to stay behind the ball on release rather tilting inward to have the 4-5 o'clock release. Until then I'll just crank on the ball like I normally do.
