This may have been addressed previously, but after looking a while I didn't see much. Lefties feel free to replace 10's with 7's as applicable wink.

I gather that the causes of the flat 10 and the ringing 10 are slightly different. The flat 10 is typically caused by a slightly light hit and/or two shallow an entry angle. Root causes can be a bad pitch or the ball burning up too quickly. Ringing 10's are caused by a slightly light hit with the ball breaking too late and coming in behind the head pin, with either a good or excessive entry angle. Correct?

When I leave a flat ten or two on good pitches, the adjustment I've been taught is to move feet and target left (2-1 for example) and use same ball or ball down if required. Does this work for you also, and am I missing anything? Ringing 10's are a little more perplexing to me. For example, the other night in PBAX on the Viper/Wood I throw the front 5 in the third game going straight up 4, all flush and high flush. 6th frame is another great pitch, but the look at the pocket wasn't the same and I rang the 10. What is a recommended adjustment, if any, for this? Maybe adrenaline kicked in and my ball speed got fast on #6, I don't know.

Thanks, y'all! ball

You answered the way I would have. Speed on the 10 pin was different than on the strikes. When I see this, I move up a half foot, and slow down slightly.

I've left very few flat ten pins so I don't know how to adjust for it but I would say maybe higher ball position to increase the ball speed. The ringing ten I leave a lot more and all I do for that is move a half a board to the right and keep the same speed and about the same target to carry the ten. The target will move because you moved but that's how I do it. It changes the angel that the ball enters the pocket with. And it works for me, I've beaten my dad a few nights (and he's a 200+ bowler) because of that and he wouldn't listen to me and try it.
