I've got a few questions about timing. I understand that its the relation between the steps we take and the swinging of our arms, is that correct?
I'm assuming that the end position is what we are really aiming for i.e when the ball is released in relation to the slide.
That was what i derived from the one step bowling training. We work backwards towards when we push away the ball in relation to our footwork. Am i correct here?
If so, what is optimum time for release in respect to the slide? Should the ball be released after the slide has been completed or should it be together at the point when the sliding stops?

Hope i'm not too confusing here....

Yep.

The slide should come to a stop just before the ball gets to the ankle. This way, you are in a stable position when the release occurs.

I see. So in essence, the pushaway should be done in relation to our steps taken with the end postion that you mentioned in mind right?

And this should take into account of each individual bowlers' swing timing, height of backswing etc. So it means that each bowler would perform the pushaway at a different timing in relation to their footwork so as to achieve the end position am i correct?

So a good timing is when you perform the pushaway and footwork at the correct time in relation to each other to achieve the resultant end position of the ball almost getting to the ankle when the slide stops before the release correct?

Others may disagree--but the way I see it, the tempo of the footwork should follow the armswing, not the other way around. In other words, if you properly synchronize your pushaway with your first step (in a 4-step approach) and you end up late or early at the foul line, you should take faster or slower steps as needed. What do you say, coaches?

Pushaway and First Step should be at the same time. I mean.. once your first step is complete.. your swing should be started. So.. 1 step, let go. Don't muscle or control it. Just push out and drop.

If you aren't muscling the ball, the amount of time your swing takes is the same no matter how high you push away. So the only way to adjust your timing is through footwork. (The period of a pendulum swing is dependent on the length and weight of the pendulum, not the starting height).
