From a USBC Press release:
USBC TABS TOM CLARK AS DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
USA Today assignment editor brings wealth of experience to new
position
GREENDALE, Wis. - The United States Bowling Congress has named
accomplished journalist Tom Clark as its new director of communications.
He will assume his new position in early April following the conclusion
of his duties for USA Today at The Masters golf tournament.
Clark, 35, has served as a sports assignment editor at USA Today - the
United States' largest circulated daily newspaper - since June 2000. He
directed USA Today's golf and tennis coverage and served as a lead
editor five straight years on its national award-winning "Super Bowl
Bonus" sections.
Clark carries a knowledgeable bowling background, having penned bowling
columns for both USA Today and
Bowlers Journal International. He also
has worked closely with the United States Golf Association and United
States Tennis Association in his role at USA Today.
"The formation of USBC makes this one of the most exciting and
significant times in the history of bowling," said Clark, a native of
Syracuse, N.Y. "I'm excited and ready to be a part of it. I believe in
bowling. It deserves a higher standing in the sports world and I hope to
help it get there."
Prior to his time at USA Today, Clark was the executive editor of the
Hickory (N.C.) Daily Record, where he helped increase circulation in his
first year following an extensive redesign and reorganization. He also
oversaw redesign and reorganization efforts as managing editor of the
Manassas (Va.) Journal Messenger from 1997-99.
"We are delighted to have Tom leading USBC's communications efforts,"
USBC Chief Operating Officer Jack Mordini said. "His experience and
proven
Track record will be a valuable asset in making USBC a leader not
only in the bowling community, but also in the sporting world."
Clark earned a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1992 from State
University of New York College at Buffalo, where he was a member of the
men's bowling team. He and his wife, Kelli, have two children - daughter
Quinn, 6, and son Rory, 2.
