So...I remember reading a post about putting a ball in a home oven overnight at 105 degrees..seemed it worked. Today we had a nice day, 80-85 degrees, sun shining- I took two small dowel rods and stock them in the ground, inserted the balls onto them using the thumbhole and left them out for about 2 hours. When I came out, balls (Cell and UltraZone) were soaking, especially the sponge-like Cell. Obviously this worked to get oil out, but are there any unwarranted issues with doing this? Just checking as its a free alternative to taking the balls to the Pro Shop...Thoughts?

Dishwasher and Kitty Litter works great (no heat dry cycle). I see no problem with your redneck ways though, just do what works for you.

Tubs of hot tap water and simple green works great also. There are many methods that work fine.

I do that with mine when I can. It seems to work pretty good and you don't have to worry about getting yelled at by the Mrs/MS "baking" bowling balls in the oven.

The sun and the patio have worked for me in the past. Just remember to wipe them down with some type of degreaser solution such as simple green, or a good ball cleaner every so often. I usually let by balls sit in the sun for 45 minutes or so, wipe them clean of the oil that seeps out, then put them back in the sun, repeating the process untill the oil present is minimal.
Works pretty good.

I've been telling people about this ever since I got on the site. I works wonders on my balls, and have balls that soak up a lot of oil (Cell and BW solid). I wouldn't leave it out there for two hours. I go out about every 5 minutes or so and rotate mine. I didn't think of dowl rods so mine have to sit outside. Ingenious idea though, really good.

The only side effects are the same as if you bake them and aren't careful. Cracking, flat spot and core seperation, but that's only if you aren't careful.

I should have done this yesterday. It was close to 90 at my house. I probably could have gotten a decent amount of oil out of my balls. I'm sure that my wife will look at me like I have 2 heads. Oh well. She already thought I was goofy when I made a bowling ball rack for my office.

Yeah you really don't know how much oil your balls are picking up until you see them drenched in oil sitting in the sunlight. The term sweating sometimes doesn't even describe the amount of oil that comes out of my balls.
