I have a newbie question. I recently had a new ball drilled (only the second I've owned). The guy at the Pro Shop said I was a low Track bowler (he could tell by looking at my old ball). I understand this has something to do with the way the ball spins down the lane? Is being a low Track bowler a good/bad thing or neither. Just looking for a general answer. I know I should have asked in the Pro Shop, but there were like 5 other guys in there and I felt a bit intimidated being a newbie.

Having low, medium, or high Track isn't really good or bad I don't think. There's possible advantages and disadvantages to each probably, but someone else could tell you those if that's the case. High Track I believe is if the the first oil line(the one closest to the gripping holes) on your ball is within 1" of your thumb or fingers, and low would be 3" or more away I think.

Low Track low rev players are at a disadvantage when oil is on the lane, the ball never wants to grab the lane, the low revs also = low friction, the low Track = low surface area making contact with the lane. Dry lanes are your best friend.

The biggest problem with a low Track is the ball will want to store all of it's energy up for the break point and the break point will occur much farther down the lane, on long patterns, it is very difficult, but not impossible to get to the pocket, Butch Soper made a good living on tour for many years with a low rev low Track and even bowled 300 on TV. That being said he was very gifted as far as reading his break point and keeping the ball in the pocket.

The higher you can get your Track, the earlier the ball will read the lane and be able to deal with oil better, and the higher margin of error you will have.

Here's a little more food for thought on this subject, as there are limitations involved in being a high Track bowler. My PAP is 5.75" over and .5" up, and my first oil line passes .5" from my thumb and middle finger. Because of my high Track, rather long span, and rather long distance to PAP I can't use layouts with the pin under my fingers or even level with them. If I do throw a ball with this layout, it tracks over the thumb and that's worthless. I've wasted some money on balls because of this thumbsdown. Pin up layouts only for this guy, and they suit my style better anyway. I'm a low-med rev player so I don't have as much trouble with the ball being jumpy off the dry as other high rev/high Track players might, but I do sometime see that on short oil or really screaming back ends.

coach you anit joking. this is something i'm working on as we speak. the brace i got is helping alot. just trying to get my hand to do the same. muscle memory is key to this also it seems. oily lane are worse for me. just got to get under it some more and i'm good.

What causes the spinner is the wrist staying c0cked through the release, if you can just unc0ck the wrist as the thumb comes out you will pick up revs and power. Try keeping everything the same as your current spinner release, except snap your wrist straight to get the ball to come off your hand faster and let me know how that works. I have not had the opportunity to work with a spinner, I have bowled with several that were very good, so I know what makes them tick and what causes them trouble. Give snapping the wrist straight a try and let me know how that works for you.

What kind of problems does tracking over the thumb cause. I have noticed this happening on my ball occasionally. I have a high Track and a pin under drilling on my ball. And unfortunately that can't be changed since I have a pin-in ball.

The ball rolling over the thumb causes the ball to go air born for a few inches as it skips down the lane, this is not good. If your Track is that high, you should probably avoid pin in balls and pin under drillings.
