For me, it'll have to be just 2 balls for a while, once I decide on my strike ball (strongly leaning towards the street rod pearl)...off to college in august so I won't have time to bowl near as much. I do think that going with one brand provides a lot of consistency, but also limits your options.

I like the Rayzr. It does look like a pretty awesome ball for drier conditions. I think the Hornet and the Venus would be good on shorter patterns.

Yeah going with one company does provide consistancy but it limits your ability to be versatile. Another reason why the pros have it harder than us. I like the idea, and I know it's a little old-school but could work. On the Flip side there is new invention and innovation brought on by competition that makes the diversity of brands such a good idea.

I know quite a few people who really like a particular ball, and they have 2 of them. One drilled stacked, and the other drilled leverage. Works for them.

They tell me that they really like the coverstock and the way is fits their game.

Note on the Avalanche Solid, it might be ok for fresh drier patterns/short patterns, but as the lanes break down, you will need to be comfortable playing 5th arrow or deeper.

If you like Visionary equipment and you can get stuff drilled fairly cheap, you may want to look into becoming a "test staffer". Go to their site (visionarybowling.com). There are 3 different levels. For the top level, you get 4 balls, a 3 ball roller (you can upgrade if you call), 2 shirts, and a towel. Then you get discounts on future stuff for $500. If you are looking at buying a few balls, it may be the way to go. I hate going around Pro Shops but you are going straight to the company itself.

I don't think I want to be a ball tester just yet so I'll try to find the balls cheap somewhere if I decide I want any of them.

I'm a little confused on this. What is the stacked leverage and label? I kind of know but I would like to completely understand the concepts.

As for throwing on the 5 board it doesn't bother me. That's where I learned how to bowl when I began about a year ago. What really pisses people off is when you throw the ball on the 1 or 2 board and get strikes. That's a lot of fun for me. Plus I don't really mind moving inside or outside. I just do what I gotta do to get all ten.

I think I'm going to go with the Rayzr and the Scout Particle or the Venus for dry lanes with carrydown.

Stacked Leverage is pin and CG are both about 3 3/8 from the PAP. Gets the most overall reaction. Label leverage has pin 3 3/8 from PAP and the CG in the middle of the grip. this layout has a tamer back end. This is fairly standard in most layout diagrams.

There are other layouts, but these are the most common.

DemolitionMan:

That is just a term that they use. It is a way for them to drum up business. The balls are all of the stuff that are out in the Pro Shops. They want feedback about them is all.

the scout sells like hot cakes in hunstville. it seems that its the go to ball for dry lanes around there. the guy that drills my balls tried selling me one as a spare ball but said that its very versatile in many ways. so that sounds interesting enough to check out. but i was thinking about going with the Lane Masters straight flush. or maybe the lane#1 starburst xxxL. who knows.....

Well that is definately good to hear. I have the Scout Reactive and I really like it. To hear that the Scout Particle works well is good. I like that line of balls for dry lanes. The other option, the Venus, I believe is a pearl particle, but I don't expect the head to be flooded on drier lanes. So the Rayrz and the Scout Particle look like they might be my dry lane balls.
