After a nice 8 week period where I was close to averaging 180 over that period I have now had back to back worst series since my comeback (probably worst series ever)a 420 and 399. I hope I snap out of it soon because I am really getting frustrated.

I been there myself Scott. All I can tell you as a professional hopeful too is to not let it get to you. If you know you bowl great and you did all you could then you should pat yourself on the back and let it slide for another day.
If you take the frustration with you, you continue to be mad and upset. But. If you can figure out what you are doing wrong or what is the source of your bad games, you can work on it and know how to adjust to it when it does come back again.
Its not the lanes, it is you.

Scott, Maybe your putting to much added pressure on yourself to perform. I remember earlier this past winter season i shot a 699. After that i went into 3 month slump. I think i put way to much pressure and thought i needed to bowl great time and time out. Once i stopped putting so much pressure. Just told my self just bowl and just make quality shots not worrying about the scores so much. I started to bowl much better. Take a look at this Q&A found on Ron Cliftons Site: Q. Back in November I had my first 300 shortly after I had a 299. Since then I can hardly shoot 180 mostly 150's. This has been very frustrating. I was averaging close to 200 before and now I am down in the low 190's and getting worse. Now I am not sure if I was just lucky or what. What do you think the problem might be? Am I trying to hard?
A. Do you know that a slump is usually not a problem with your physical game but more mental it is a severe lack of confidence. When you are shooting those 150's you begin to think that you forgot how to bowl. That is not the case at all you know how to bowl you have to let your muscle memory start working again. You are right you are probably trying to hard. It is very difficult to work your way out of a slump try taking about 2 weeks off and not bowl at all. Then come back with a fresh attitude, without practice expectations are lower and the pressure of performing is also lower. Then you can get back into a free flowing swing again. Because of the 300 and almost another you most likely started to pressure yourself into doing it again. Relax have fun and it will come back. When you get up on the approach for your shot clear your mind and just think spot. See how close you can get each time to your target if you miss it don't beat yourself up just get your spare and try again the next time. For a while quit thinking score just think target. Don't analyze every shot that will drive you nuts. If you need to think about what you are doing do that in the settee area, When you get up on the approach no more thinking. Try this get yourself set then try counting count each time to 3 before beginning your approach. One thousand one, thousand two, one thousand three. All while watching your mark then go. This helps to clear other thoughts from your mind.

Thanks for the pep talk guys. I really needed it because right now I am so frustrated I can hardly stand it. I know it won't last but I guess coming after I had hit such highs it really hits hard.

scott, i am right there with you. three weeks ago i shot a 607 and a 591. those were improvements on my other scores. but last week i couldn't hit anything and scored a 505 and a 400. (really brought my league averages down)
i went bowling last night and i was bowling in the 180s again. my problem was all in the approach and trying to throw it too hard. i slowed my ball speed down and the strikes came back to me.
sunday is league night, hopefully i will be bowling better than last week.

Scott don't feel bad. I bowled a ...97 last night. WHEW.. Granted it was on a PBA pattern, but it was'nt the pattern that got me..it was me. I was all messed up and could not recover. I am starting to think that this PBA stuff is doing more harm than good.
You will get it together again,..I just hope I can..a 97..WOW. Thats almost Obama like.

Scott, didn't we have this same talk with you last year. Keep your head up. Did you ever think of just having fun? Don't get down on yourself. You pulled out before, and you'll do it again.
Eraser, see your coach again. And, please, never bowl like a Democrat on this board. Especially one who already said he would remove the bowling lanes in the White House. Bowling is not an entitlement, and is not paid by tax dollar increases. It comes out of yourown pocket. So, make the best of it.

Dennis, Another visit with my coach is already scheduled, altough its a few weeks out due to conflicting schedules. I eventually straightened out somewhat at the end of the night. Got to keep working at it, I have to find a way to slow down some. Obama actually said he would remove the lanes from the White House? How un-American is that?

Scott, Keep your head up and think positive. I have been on a hot streak lately. Shot 733 2weeks ago then this week I went 268-223-169 for a 660. Before the last game started, I got thinking way way to much. Was thinking I should have an easy 700. Well I lost my reaction in the 3rd game and started missing single pin spares. I was on the approach thinking of what to do, when I should have been thinking in the settee area. I tell my wife and step daughter that bowling is about 75% mental and 25% physical. If you mentally start to doubt yourself it will reflect in your score. When I was shooting my 268, I had no idea I was doing that well. I just got on the approach, checked my feet, looked at my target and went. I knew I had a lot of strikes but, I took it one shot at a time. Just remember positive thoughts and 1 shot at a time.
I try to take the Pete Weber approach. Get on the approach, check feet for alignment, look at the target and go. I don't leave myself anytime to think about any negative thoughts. I was told by a couple of friends in my fall league that, I was quick on the approach. I always tell them the less time your on the approach the less time you have for self doubt to creep into your game.
