Had another decent night...not really spectacular by recent standards, but, with a 579, I beat my AVG+1 score, anyway. We had our full team present for the first time since opening night, so that was a good sign. Everyone else bowled well enough to allow us to take 6 points, and I'm told "Fun and Games" had a 4-4 split, so we picked up 2 points on them with the rematch looming next week.

On Monday, I had a look at the full schedule and got some good news and some bad news on a personal basis: my team will bowl against my cousins' team, but the night we do so happens to be my sister's birthday. Depending on my family's plans for that night, I may have to pre-bowl, but my sister may also be able to arrange the party for a different night, as she knows bowling with my cousins would mean a lot to me. smile

For Frame by Frame analysis:
http://www.bowlsk.com/games/view-series.html?series=2849

Well after a disappointing 491 id hope to get back in the 600 this week. Well i almost did but i just had too many opens. I need to really work on those spare there killing 11+ pin a missed spare really can hurt your average.

So i didnt do that bad okey night id like to better and know i can do. I guess i just setting my standards higher now.

So 178-192-208 = 578 series.

Game 1 = 178. Three opens. Split in 7th and wiffed 6-10 in the 8th. Then did the unthinkable in the 10thframe threw the first ball in the gutter and could pick up the spare and left 8 count to open in the 10th.

Game 2 - 192 better. 5th and 7th wiffed the 10 pin. That about 22+ pin i lost in that game. Argh some night cant miss the 10 pin somenight cant pick it up1

Game 3 - way better. 208. No Opens Clean game!

Team wise lost all 7 points! Gave away 83 pins and could recover or catch up!

Travel League-

542

182, 183, 177

Started off every game with an open frame. Had 2 opens in each game (all makeables). But getting better at filling more frames. My best set so far in the travel league.

PBA- Scorpion 1st Week

590

226, 176, 188

226 was clean and maybe the worst 220 game I've ever thrown. I had a string of 4 late that all went brook. Drove me nuts.

Other games I had 2 opens in each. 1 was a washout, 1 was a gutter ball, and the other were makeables.

Well the set was decent, MATCH PLAY WAS WACK!

Afraid to chase it in again, and tried to throw it harder. Timing was there but the way I was releasing the ball was not. I was in throw the ball mode instead of roll the ball mode.

Notice things:
Upperbody tilts up causing drastics changes in my rhythm on the slide step (Coach and Smooth mentioned this a while ago)

My slide is a bit too aggressive and this is why I probably tore something in my knee that's been messing with me the last couple of weeks. I need to tone it down. Marshall Holman doesn't have an aggressive slide like me and he could slide to the pindeck!

I went in with lower expectations - I didn't want to roll a 1200, just hit my target and stay clean. Well, I didn't get the 1200, but I also didn't hit my target. Bright side is 9/9 on single pins, I guess. As far as the scores, game 1 says 204, and I have it tracked as a 204 by the pinfall I recorded, but I only get a 195... Not sure where I got messed up.

EDIT: The only way I could get the score to add up right is to say I missed the 3 pin in the 7th frame. frown So much for perfect single pins.

I broke out of my huge slump somewhat. I shot a 475 (160, 175, 140) which after a 399 last week I will take. Best off we won all 4 games pretty easily. The first game was tight but I stayed clean in the 10th. The team is now 14-10 and trying to make a move. Still a lot of time left.

My summer league this year is a scratch trio, which is unfortunate in a way because I feel pressure to score well, so I can't mess around with my mechanics as I would like...and then my 'practice' is on the PBA patterns, so I'm on the lanes twice a week now and I'm still not getting any real practice.

(My compromise is that I'm sticking with the approach changes and kick, which lower my body and change my arm slot in consequence, but the straight spares and finger movement on strikes are on hold until after summer league, which means I'll be a work in progress through the first half of fall league. I figure that, since we won last year, they can afford to baby me the first couple of months.)

Anyway, I'm lucky enough to have the worst entering average for my squad, so I'm bowling in the second slot, which was occupied by a 195 blind this week. I practiced with the Doom, but it was reacting too much, so I switched over to the Liberator at the last moment, running 9 (arrows) to 5 (break). That worked fine as I started with a 247, but the second game I kept having to slow down and move right because of carrydown, and even though all my misses were nine-spares, I only put up a 218...I figured the lane was set up for the Doom now, so I brought it out for the last shot and put the Liberator away.

Third game, I started with a spare, then five strikes, so it looked like I'd made the right move: I was sending the Doom from 17 (arrows) to 5 (break), and the carrydown was enough to hold it a moment before it turned into the pocket. The seventh frame, I got too much hand into it and left a 4-9-10, and that was about it for that ball--I left a 3-6 the next ball and dumped my spare shot into the gutter for my second and final open frame of the night, and then moving left for a deeper shot, I couldn't find a good line, so I spared out the last two for a 209.

I brought out the heavy El Nino for the last game, figuring I didn't have to worry about stamina anymore--besides, it was the last strike ball left in my bag. I threw a straighter shot with it, 18 out to 6 or 7, and it was much more forgiving. I struck the first nine, but the strikes were progressively lighter and the last two or three were lucky mixers; I decided I couldn't throw three more like that, so I made an adjustment in the 10th to try to get the ball a bit higher in the pocket. Sure enough, I got it just high enough to leave the 7-10, but the headpin bounced off the wall to take the 10pin, so I spared the 7pin and threw the last ball with my eyes closed for a 277.

IIRC the 951 series is my best ever for four games, and I raised my average for the league from 210 to 216. We score with a 50-point system, and I picked up all 10 of my matchup points and helped our team get all 20 possible team points; we went 40-10 overall and moved into first place out of the seven teams. Oh, and I went six-for-six for the night on 10pins.

Pretty good week for me overall. smile

Finally got a look at the standings after last week yesterday...my team slipped to 4th place despite taking 6 points last week. They also posted the average class highs, and I appear to be in the men's Class A, as my 642 would've been the second high series in Class B, but is not listed anywhere. The three high series in the men's Class A are all 700+, so that gives me something to shoot for in my continuing effort to improve.

My night started out odd. We were bowling on the Chameleon. During practice, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I was trying to get my breakpoint at around 10. I couldn't get the ball to the pocket. I decided to go straight up 5 but practice was over. First ball, strike. I had the next 6 for the front 7. Then, I let the ball drift a smidge and left a 4 pin. Then, I went high again for a 6-10. First 2 in the 10th followed by a dud for a 264. Game 2, I completely fell apart. I was a little off and when I would throw a good shot, I would leave a 10 or a 7. I missed (2) 10 pins and a 7 pin. Finished with a 149. Third game, shot a 182. My main problem this summer is my spare shooting. I was very confident in my spare game last summer but now it is almost like I am scared to throw the ball. I need to get out for a day and just throw at 10s and 7s.

On the bright side, I got my Cell drilled up last night. Pin Down, 5" from my axis and the MB an inch from my VAL. I have an axis hole on my VAL below my thumb (when he was done drilling, I had about an ounce of thumb weight). I was only able to throw a couple of shots with it because it was getting late. The ball read early and hit like a ton of bricks. I can't wait for next week.

Don't feel too bad about the chameleon, PBA shootout yesterday had trhe chameleon and it took till Rhino Page (4th!!! bowler) to even hit the right pocket! Big Nasty (Wes Mallott) was the only player with 2 strikes out of such names as Patrick Allen, Parker Bohn III, Walter Ray W. Jr, Rhino, and Mika Kouvuneimi. It's tough apparently.

About the night I imagined I'd have...10 pins over my AVG+1, and my team got "payback" from the first meeting with "Fun and Games" by taking 6 points from them. Strung together six in a row in the last game, but started with a washout and also missed a couple of single pins later, which held my score down to a 213; I called that "perhaps the ugliest 213 I've ever had." Other than that, a good night. laugh
