Bowling afterwards bad... After still having issues bringing the ball behind my back during my back swing my coach decides to try something a bit different with me. This turned out to be a real eye opener as I was getting consistent power, and revs. Making some excellent pocket shots, and keeping good controllable speed on my spare shots.

Then I go to the bowling alley where I bowl league, and completely lost it... It seems as though all I learned went in one ear and out the other. Though it's all in the back of my head. Hopefully my coach will send the video to me soon so I can get some more insight from you guys.

Where is your starting ball position? What I mean is where do you hold the ball at the beginning of your approach?

Complicated to put in words lol, but here goes nothing... I usually open up my hip and shoulder in my starting position. So my coach wanted to try centering the ball a bit more with my body. Which was working great, until I went to practice afterwards... Elbow is usually at a 90, and I push away towards my target.

So your ball and swing arm aren't lined up with your target line?

Also my experince with having the ball centered led to the same results. It think what happened was that you unconsciously thought that you had to get out of the way of the ball, if that makes any sense. The ball isn't at your side now so you thought you had to get out of its way and that can lead to a couple of bad habits that aren't fun to deal with.

Are you also be having some timing and posting up issues as well?

I'd ask your coach first, if you're having trouble with it because he would know better than I would, and don't want to second guess him. I would suggest, and this is going to sound weird, but be as brain dead as possible to your surroundings on the approach and go when you want to.

It could also be something as simple as walking too slow or having your ball position a little too high or a combinationof the two. Or maybe you're muscling the ball a little. I really can't tell without seeing a video. Again ask your coach he would know or maybe ask him to watch for some of these things.

That's all that we worked on... my guess is I was just muscling a bit along with my timing being a bit off somewhere. Plus I'm still having a hard time with my balance arm flailing all over the place...
