League tonight. I had to fall sometime back to earth at tonight was the night. I was riding a month of great bowling with series all above 600.
Well tonight i just couldnt find a consistent line to the pocket. When i did it would change very quickly.
Game 1: Clean game no opens but also no carry at all. I had just 2 strikes in that game. For a 188
Game 2: Found my carry again! Did miss one spare wiffed the 10 pin. for a 226
Game 3: Lost my line and carry again. Just 3 Strikes and too many opens. Chope double wood n the 3rd. Chopped the 2-4-7-5 and in 10th frame left 2-4-10 split for 170
Series Total not that great [188-226-170 = 584] oh well!
Team wise only took 1 game tonight for 2 pts. Lost 1st, 3rd (Their Anchor Shot a 279 at us) and Total Pins Lost.

I was not able to make league on Monday night due to the fact that relatives unexpectedly came in from Vegas for a 3 day visit, thus we had to do the tourist thing. I was hoping the team would do fine without me and we could still be able to maintain our position at the top of the standings. However, my teammates said they bowled like you-know-what and lost all 4 (3 games plus total pins). Fortunately, we're still in the early stages of Summer League and we still have enough time to regain the lead and hopefully we'll get to compete in the Jubilee in August.

I had the Chameleon pattern again last night, and really bowled badly. My trouble is not so much with the pattern, its my timing, and arm swing. Suddenly I am back to muscling the ball, falling off the shot... really just all out of whack. My ball speed is out of control @ 18-19 mph. I can't seem to put two good shots in a row together. One game I can't strike for the life of me, and the next game I'm chopping off pins leaving 4-5 opens....very frustrating. I know what I'm doing wrong,...I just am having trouble correcting it.
I have another session with my coach this weekend, and hopefully I can get it through my thick skull and correct this. This is the same thing that plagued me for the entire first half of last season. I really don't want to experience that again.

Eraser, all I can say is, BE CAREFUL. Many of us want the challenge of the tougher lane conditions, but we can do some damage to our game in doing so. It is good that you are seeing your Coach before the next league night. Stop your problems now.
PBAX can cause the bowler to do things that they are not used to doing, like muscling, cranking, hitting up and picking up speed. If you don't stop doing these right away, they stay with you and are very hard to get rid of.
All of a sudden, your normal motion doesn't work. The bowler tries to make them work by doing things they normally wouldn't. So, be careful.

Dennis, I have thought about that, by bowling in a PABX league actually being detrimental in the long run. But I really don't think the pattern is the problem,..but I could be wrong. I am just all out of sync. The problem I think is in my second and third step being too fast, and I arrive at the foul line way before the ball does..so I end up cranking it to catch up. I think I need to take a bigger first step to correct it. But saying it and doing it...well its tougher than it looks.

Eraser, all of a sudden, your ball doesn't react as normal. You can't hold the line. You have to be more accurate. Your ball dives on the end. One pattern, it slides for 40 feet, the next, it hooks in 35.
I have seen many bowlers develop bad habits because of these conditions. It is much, much different than bowling in a Sport league. A sport league shot will pretty much remain constant throughout the year. But, a PBA pattern is so different from a THS that is may cause a problem. Then, as you try to fix that, the league pattern changes, and another problem arises. It's not like the pros, and it is like the pros. They bowl on this shot, but not the way a PBA league is set up. The shot doesn't change for a tournament, so a bowler can more easily make an adjustment.
Obviously, the more you bowl on the same pattern, the more successful you can be. Trying it in week 1, then waiting a week til week 2, then changing the pattern in week 3 doesn't help the above average bowler, but in many cases, hurts them.

You could very well be right Dennis. I would be more sure of it if I had a nice smooth approach and release, and felt comfortable. But true, the PBA patterns themselves may be the culprit as to why my game has nose dived of late.
I finished the season bowling well, flirting with 700 several times, and hitting it twice. Then we had a couple of weeks off, and we started the PBA league, and ..presto..I stink. So the theory of bowling on the PBA patterns makes sense. Funny, ...I thought bowling in this league would help my game...
