My appologies, I didn't read any thing about Intros. I'm not well noted for thinking, the wife does that. I am a Disabled Viet Nam Vet. I bowl Sasba Senior Alstars. I bowl about all over the USA. My favorite is Sam Town, High roller At Las Vegas, If you ever get the chance, Brad Edelman manages one of the most enjoyable tournaments you will bowl. I am 57yrs. old Iraise break train and sell Registered Quarter Horses. I also build hand made saddles. I am just recovering from a stroke first week of Jan. this year so am a bit off on the thinking. If I say some thing that doesn't sound just right, it probably ain't, just say oh well. Ha! Good speaking with ya. Bowl good, have fun. Eddie

I'd like to welcome you again Eddie. The Intro isn't a pre-requisite but it is nice to get a feel for the person other than as a bowler. I'm sure you will find this site very enjoyable, with lots of good people, and friendly discussions even when people don't agree. After reading some of your posts previous to this I already had some respect for you as a bowler and now after finding out you served in our Military it has just added to the respect. I salute you and any others that have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces. Thank you for your sacrifice of your personal freedom to defend ours.

It was my pleasure, I volunteered I wasn"t drafted and I volunteered for Nam, I was rewarded with a souvenier in my left femur, Ha! 9 mm. I left it there to remind me to be just a wee bit mor care ful about what I voulunteer for though. Ha! I was a bit gung ho and loved a good fight in my younger days, raised by a wwII Jar head. I was quite a little RED Neck 6' 1" 190lb. And if I had any brains they didn"t show at the time. Was glad to do my part, would goi through it all again if necessary. I'm sortta over the hill now but if it ever comes here at home, look out, I'll be right back at it. Sure enjoy reading you folks posts. You really raise some good issues that need to rise to attention. Some seem to beat theirself a bit. Every body pulls bad habits. No need to take it so hard. One of the best things you can do is bowl pro ams and ask the pros questions as you bowl they will watch you and help you as you are bowling, and don't be bashful about asking either. That is what the pro ams are for. Eddie

First of all.....thankyou for your service.

My partner had a stroke about 5 years ago at age 48. Prior to that he was a 230 average bowler on any house shot you could throw at him. He was a local menace and pot bowler fiend. $20 a ball was not unusual for their game antics. He's been averaging over 200 for more then 38 years straight no breaks. The stroke effected his dominant right side. And though it wasn't a drastic "put you in a wheel chair" stroke, he's been struggling ever since. And for a guy thats used to being at the top of the pyramid to feel good about a 200 to 212 average is disheartening for him. So I have an idea of what your wife is going through experiencing your rehabilitation.

Welcome Eddie. Seems we were in about the same time. I went in Dec 19, 1969. Although I was slated for OCS, I requested Infantry. There were some of us who just thought that way. If there was a tough redneck running around the streets of Chicago, I was that person.

Anyhow, got an early out due to snafu. Can't buck the system. My first cousin just retired after 42 years of service in Feb. Brig. Gen. Wow, he did some good stuff. He found a life, and enjoyed it.

Thanks for your time.

Eddie,
Welcome. It's good to have another senior on board. I am fairly new myself having joined early this year. Like you I enlisted, but in the navy, hoping to see the world. I had passed the written test for officer candidate school but failed the physical being deaf in my left ear. And so I began my navy career as an E-3 but was never on a ship. I was assigned to the Seabees and spent my 4 years between Port Hueneme,Ca, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, and 2 stints in Nam. I started out as a draftsman but ended up as a company clerk. I was honorably discharged as an E-5 in 1971.

One of the bennys of being a seabee was the amount of bowling I was able to cram into my free time when my battalion was in home port. Bowling at the base alleys (an 8-lane house) was only 25 cents/game and 10 games a session was typical for me. The only problem was that we were never there long enough for me to complete a league season before shipping out.

I'm going to be disabled shortly as I'll be going in for a knee resurfacing later on this month. I'll be out of action for at least three months but I'll probably be spending a lot of time on this board despite it being the off-season.

John

John, Charles Pipes has the Pro Shop at Jonesboro Ark. Bowling center and he had a complete knee replacement and with the new technology we were bowling together kinda easy at first in about 8 to 10 weeks, hope you get to recoup the same and good luck on your surgery. Any problems with your disability, don't hesitate to go around the va officers and write to Atlanta Ga. And complain to the main offic. I was warned repeatedly by the va reps i could get cut off. I went from 20 per cent to 50 percent with $8600 in back pay. You dont threaten a vet, huh? If ya need any help dont hesitate to go to the top. Thats what they are there for and thats what they get paid to do. The ones at Atlanta seemed to do me more good. I got the impression they were the topdogs they knew it and were there to help. The local reps seemed like they were jealous of the big dogs and wanted to try to show their authority and spent more time trying to convice me of what I couldnt do rather than try to help me. Eddie (Glad to be on deck with you guys and gals)

Erin I went back to bowling for my rehab till Margaret had her heart attack. I had the age old problem of make 3 strikes get hyped up and start rushing. I _can __not_bowl__fast.Ha! Since the stroke I was bowling, the last few tournys I was bowling, I was bowling more consistant 221, 226 238 204 what ever but they were staying more upward in the two hundreds. The stroke slowed me down, I cant move as fast and I can stay on target if you can keep me slowed down. My games are there fore improving as my mental ability is coming back. I think taking care of Margaret has helped me tremendously.

I'm being operated on by a private physician. He did a successful operation on my wife last week but her operation was nothing compared to what I'm facing. The wife just had some damaged tendons which were removed - The doctor just made two 1/2" incisions and went in with a scalpel that looked like a mini roto rooter and a vacuum with a camera on it. The wife was awake and watched the entire procedure.

I have decent health insurance as a former employee of New York State.

I'm thinking of ordering another ball before I get operated on. I am looking at the Roto-Grip Neptune for now.
