Going to Albuquerque soon. Can you put a 2 ball, pullbag, in the over head console?? With the new fees, I'd like to check only one bag! And want to know if I can carry on one of my bags?? Thanks!!!

A suggestion: check your bowling balls and carry your luggage. There are several reasons. First if you have to change planes it will be so much easier on you trying to get from one terminal to another with your luggage rather than your bowling bag. The second reason is from personal experience. 2 years ago when we went to Reno (we actually went to Sacramento and drove) one of my group decided to carry his balls on the plane as a carry on. At the airport security checkpoint his bowling bag was x-rayed 10 different times. 3 supervisors and 1 manager were involved clearing security. It took him almost 2 hours. Imagine what his bowling balls looked like on x-rays. The core showed up as dense as an explosive device, but when they looked in the bag they saw spheres. He almost missed the flight. On the return trip, his balls were x-rayed again multiple times. He vowed never to carry his bowling equipment on another flight. None of the others traveling together had any trouble with our checked equipment. It all went through security together and was accepted for what is was.

absolutely, check your balls, and carry on your bag. I actually pack some articles of clothing in my ball bags to give them further protection. Like t-shirts, socks and shorts.

And from how I saw them unloading the plane, my balls needed more protection.

I fly southwest. I can still check 2 bags and take 1 carry on and 1 personal bag. I hate checking anything but I always check my bowling balls. If I wasn't bowling league, I would use the Bowling Ball Express. You ship your stuff out there and it is onsite when you get there. It is on bowl.com.

Dennis:

I always take a couple of extra towels and put them in my bowling bags when I travel as padding.

GP Just rememeber if your bringing any liquids or gel on carry on. They have to 3oz or less and be in Clear Zip Lock bag.

You might have to check with your airlines on that. I know some airlines its different. I believe it is still 2 check in bags and 1 carry on though.

Brandon:

Look at the airport worker smile I know. I have all of my "travel size" stuff in a ziplock bag already. I keep it next to my shaving kit.

They confiscated my freezer bag at the airport. Said it was too large and had to be quart size maximum and sealed. Took my shaving cream, and toothpaste because they were too large, more than 2.5 oz. I said there is less than 2.5 oz left inside. They go by the printed weight on the original package. They let the 4oz deoderant pass though.

I just love being pulled out of the line for a luggage inspection. Everyone looks at you like you are a terrorist. Especially, when I came with it, now I can't return with it. When they inspect, I always tell them to go in my dirty underwear section of my bag. Ha Ha, go fish.

And, you can only check 1 bag at United. A second one costs $25. Coming from Chicago, some of our bowlers flew United and had to pay extra for their balls.

I have never had a problem with taking a freezer bag. If they want me to put all of my stuff in the small bags, cool. I will have like 3 of them though. When you have shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, shaving cream, deodorant and so on, it adds up.
