Why is it common for most shops to bevel the edge if it will help the thumb with the grip? One shop did not bevel the edge of one of my balls and I did notice a big difference with the grip.

I decided to post this again incase you missed it the last 4 times laugh glitch humor

The same reason most bowlers have a span that is too long and a ton of reverse pitch in their oversized over beveled thumb holes, so they can squeeze the snot out of the ball and get three revs on the ball and wonder why they can't hook the ball like the pros.

I agree. I actually laughed. I admit, I'm not able to have revs like the pros due to my squeezing too, but I think I have a fair amount of revs for someone that squeezes. Although, I probably don't squeeze as much as others.

I'm going on a total guess but I'd say my rev rate is like 150-180. I could be totally off but I thought 200 was kinda high so I don't think I'm there. My driller admits he squeezes the ball and he gets a good amount of revs on the ball, probably 210+.

I heard something like 275 was the lowest rev rate on tour right now, is that true? If so, would you guys know who has that rev rate?

Who that is could change very shortly after the tour trials are over. Mike Minter had a low rev rate, Ric Lawrence had a low rev rate. They both have muscled swings and probably squeeze the ball as well, I am not saying nobody has ever been successful squeezing and pulling and tugging the ball, if you watch old pba telecasts you will see plenty of them. Lynda Barnes has a low rev rate and she doesn't squeeze the ball and has a beautiful free swing, and she can compete against any of the men and be successful so it is not about rev rate as much as repeatability and versatility.

It takes years and years of practice and repeating shots over and over to get to a marginal level bowling like this, and even if you are talented enough to be able to get to a marginal level bowling with a muscled swing, you will not be very versatile and only be competitive when it is "your shot".

On the other hand, if you learn to bowl without squeezing the ball and use gravity to repeat the shot over and over without effort, you will be miles ahead in a shorter amount of time.

Walter Ray Williams gets 250-275 rpm. Also, he may look different and funny when he's bowling, and hit up on it a ton, but you can bet he's got a free armswing, and a relaxed hand.
