A couple of good strong pearls for medium oil are MoRich's NSane LevRG and the Black Widow Pearl (I think, I'm still catching up on the new stuff so I may be wrong). I have the NSane and for medium to medium-heavy oil its great, but once I get into heavier stuff it just skids way too much.

I'm also looking into upgrading my equipment and am currently looking at heavy oil and light oil balls. I have my heavy oil choices narrowed down to the Black Widow Bite and Lane #1 Buzzbomb, and my light oil choice down to the Roto-Grip Neptune. I got a free White Dot in a league I was bowling in on Tuesdays so that's becoming my dry/spare ball. I'm going over to the Pro Shop tonight after work to talk to the guy about it more and see what he recommends.

There's a lot of other stuff out there, and a guy who's quickly becoming a pretty good friend in my Wednesday league is looking at the Secret Agent. Really nowadays its almost like you can't go wrong with any ball you choose for a certain condition as long as you can figure the ball out, and it seems more like its just about the ball you want or brand you prefer.

MoRich has really caught my eye since I started back bowling. My original decision was either between the original LevRg or the Cell and I was just going to go with the Cell because of all the great reviews it's been getting.

I think both the regular LevRG and the Cell are designed for more heavy oil, while the NSane LevRG and BW Pearl are more for medium conditions.

I throw the Brunswick Fury Pearl and I am very pleased with it.
I throw a fairly stright ball anyway but I wanted a ball that would give me good pin action and this Fury Pearl does it for me.
I can hit the pocket light, I can hit the pocket heavy and even go brooklyn and get pretty good strike results.
My average used to be in the 160ies and now I am bowling in the 180ies with alot of 200 games, so I can honestly say I like my Brunswick Fury Pearl ball.

Yeah, Im thinking you should go with the Widow pearl or the Doom. I have a vibe for med oil, and Im about to replace my no mercy with the doom just for the fact that I can only use the no mercy in heavy oil once it starts breaking down im screwed because the vibe still goes to long in that certain type of condition. The doom seems like a more versatile ball when the heavier oil breaks down and has a symmetrical core which im finding out I like better than all those fancy Asymmetrical cores because it's easier to predict where the ball is going. For example I can throw the the mercy out toward the first arrow say Opps, then watch it scream back in toward the pocket. That and I noticed that ball leaves an awful amount of 10 pins and it's really starting to get on my nerves. As for the Widow, I went to a local ally while there was a usbc tourny going on and I saw 4 ppl using that ball. It's good but like i said before hammers high performance balls need alot of maintenance which is why I would personally go with the doom instead. My Pro Shop guy also recommended that ball to me. Oh and check out the Lane Masters Terminator I've been hearing a lot of good things about that ball. My friend also uses there products and he loves them.

I will echo Robry about the skid/snap versus the strong arc ball. Skid/snap balls are harder to control. A ball that has a strong arc will stay in the pocket more often. If you get a ball with a super duper backend, be careful how you drill it. A ball that gives you great strikes when it hits the pocket but leaves you splits a lot of the time isn't going to make you much better. Try to control the breakpoint. If you are very accurate, then go for the skid/snap. the reward can be great. If you bowl tourny's and bowl on tougher conditions, use your release to create the backend. You'll need a ball that is more predictable.

I like Storm so I would push the SureFire. Easy to control medium condition ball that will still provide pop at the pins. Also a mid range price ball.

I'm really not looking for a medium condition ball. I'm actually able to adjust when the lanes start to break down but I just can't handle really heavy conditions. I need something that will get through the oil.

I shot my worst set this past weekend because the outside of the lanes were just flooded and nothing in my bag would come back. I never had that problem back when my equipment was new but the oil patterns have changed a lot and my equipment is not new by any means.

I think just getting into a newer ball is going to help me out a lot. The more I read about aggressive matte balls the more I worry that they might be more than I need for the houses around here. I will take all of your suggestions into consideration and let you know which ball I pick and how it turns out. Any other suggestions would be great. It will still be another couple of weeks before I am able to get something drilled up.

I did some looking into the Doom and I don't believe that it is anywhere near aggressive enough for what I need. The Widow Pearl and the Doom seem to be completely different balls with the Widow being a lot stronger. The Doom looks like a great medium oil ball though.

If you're looking for something for heavy heavy oil look at the Black Widow Bite, Lane #1 Buzzbomb or the Roto-Grip Cell. All of them are supposed to be very strong heavy oil balls. You can also go here to find a spreadsheet compilation of BTM reviews that breaks down every ball since 2001 by manufacturer. It has different columns for heavy, medium, light and sport oil conditions and gives a score on a 10 point scale of how each ball works on each condition for each type of player (cranker/tweener/stroker). The higher the score the better the ball is for that condition.

Those were the balls that I was looking for when I first went into the Pro Shop but I was steered another direction. I pretty much had my mind set on the Cell but he suggested otherwise.

I'm going to go with a pearl and see how it works out. Even if it doesn't give me exactly what I want it will still fill a spot in my arsenal and, if I need it, my next ball can be something even more aggressive.

BTW, thanks for that website. It has a couple of good spreadsheets on there.
