So I threw some practice on the lanes where I go to school and I got some of my approach issues worked out. I lowered the ball in my stance to try to correct the timing issues I was having as well as hitting the line and my foot turning sideways. Well I had to lower the ball in my stance as well as lower my stance a little altogether. It worked fine. Also I worked on throwing a straight ball at my spares. I need to develop that game becasue I never really learned it. It is tough but not that tough. I can throw a striahgt ball at any spare after today, provided I execute correctly. I also found a way to use the 3-6-9 method for striaght ball spare shooting. It was a little weird because it invovles being closer to the ball return than I like to hit the left side spares and throwing the ball closer to the gutter than I would prefer to for the right side spares but it worked nonetheless. I can't wait to use it next Monday in my PBA Sport Shot league.

That's good to read, demoman! I was also in the works to learn how to throw my spare ball straight at them. Hopefully I won't get too far off from the point I've gotten to.

It's tough because I originally learned to throw a hooking ball at my spares but that won't fly in the PBA Shot League. And spares are key in that league. Also on my trailing leg I noticed I was doing the Walter Ray Williams JR. thing, where he kicks his lieg up in the air. I just aquired the habit and I want to break it now before it becomes a problem. I niticed that it would throw me off balance sometimes and/or I'd throw the ball too fast. So I had to re-teach my body how to get comfortable with sliding the trail leg behind me.

I did some practice today as well. Most of it was just a free armswing and trying to move up on the approach since I start at the back dots and only take 4 steps. I actually took a few video shots on my phone and noticed I rush the last two steps to cover the last 7-8 feet or so. I also learned how to take my slide leg out from under me when throwing my spare ball. For some that don't know, I've been hitting the inside of my slide ankle often since February and today was definitely the worse. I went down on this one and a manager that was at the desk came over and offered me a knee brace because he thought my knee buckled. Surprisingly enough there isn't a bruise and its not really sore.

I will practice on Sundays. The House I bowled at gave me some free game certificates, and I intend to use them. I must have 30 free games. I will focus on keeping my body mechanically doing the right thing to regain my consistency. I am also taking lessons to improve my using an inside line which I am not good at. While under the watch of my Coach, I can routinely roll correctly. As soon as he leaves, I lose it. As an example, a couple of weeks ago, he saw me losening up before league, came over and made a couple of suggestions. Moved me more left, gave me a new target, and breakpoint secondary target. I proceeded to roll 9 straight strikes. He left and the league started. I used his suggestions, and started with a 240, then I lost it and couldn't regain it, rolling a 180 next. I need work.

When I met with him last ( couple of weeks ago) he recommended a different line when moving inside. I was standing outside of 30 and walking too much to the right at release. Now, I am finishing left of center, and target 12/13 to 5. And, coming straight up on the ball.
I cannot read the oil affect at this angle, as I think it is my release rather than oil breakdown. I think it is release because I give the ball more side rotation from this line. A subconcious thing. I notice my flare rings changing when I side too much, and the ball doesn't finish.
In a week or so, when my wrist heals, I will see him again to continue.

Bill Taylor's book Target Lines might help you as far as drifting is concerned. It is a small book, but packs a ton of useful info in there, at least for sport type patterns, it predates house oil patterns. It is about 3/4 of the way down the page: http://www.bowlingsbookstore.com/catbkins.html?mgiToken=469E76160A46F81F#Target%20Lines Post a video when you are able to bowl again, maybe I can help.
