This was originally going to be part of my Tuesday mens league report but I decided to shorten that up some and to just get a different topic
rolling. This is more than just league, lane play, physical or mental ability. At the end of that post I mentioned where one of my teammates went through the roster of the league and calculated the difference in entering average and current average of the bowlers in the league. He was doing this to try to prove a point to his new girlfriend that works at this center how [censored] the lanes are. We aren't bowling there next season, for me its due to their lack of caring for the league bowler. I don't mind a tougher condition it makes the easier ones all the more easier, but only if I'm executing right on both of them.
After we finished league I then got into a minor argument with him that its not the lanes, they can be played as several
games of 220+ on our pair alone proved. He came up with an average of 7 pins dropped per a person on the rosters from entering average. Most people did go down, some because they couldn't adjust when the lanes weren't in their comfort zone. Some have went up including him but he blames this center in bowling bad at the other one we are bowl in, especially since he bowls way too much at the center he is complaining about. I've lost 16 pins, but the bulk of that is on me not executing and not making spares. I'm throwing hard and straight at spares but I'm screwing something up where I come no where near the pins at times. Another bowler on the team lost 22 pins but has spent most of the season coming back from a broken ankle last spring and rotator cup surgery over the summer. He has lots of hand but not the speed. At the other house we bowl league in he is averaging over 200 but there is more oil and its longer. It also holds up better and usually requires less adjustment where our Tuesday house is short and light and can require 10+ boards of adjustment in just over a
game if enough people are playing close enough.
My teammate then wants to try to compare any average difference between the two houses. He wants to manipulate statistics to prove his point, he says its not manipulating but anytime you use them to compare different things you manipulate them to do so. As many say you can't compare averages from different houses because every house is a bit different. The Tuesday house has always been known as a tougher house, while the other house is known as being easy and attracts way more league bowlers but it has a lot to do with how they treat the bowlers.
I freely admit the house in question sucks, they don't treat league bowlers well, the shot is inconsistent mainly due to a lane machine that needs replaced and I hear they use a lesser quality oil, and the scorers and pin machines need updating at least into the 90s. Its
AMF which explains a lot but some of the other
AMF centers in the area do cater more to leagues. The center he wants to compare to is a
Brunswick that keeps the leagues happy and stays full and if it ever becomes a bigger center it might put a few of the AMFs out of business.
If you read this whole thing, thanks for getting through my somewhat of a rant and sorry to subject you all to this but I just needed to convey it to others that might understand. I guess some people just prefer the cake, great wall, china or whatever else you want to call it. I might have started on it but it doesn't mean thats all I want to bowl on.
