Sad. Makes me feel better about me, but worse about the sport.

Oh well, first night is tonight. Practice is ~7 hours and 12 minutes away. It cannot come soon enough! I am so excited to bowl this league.

P.S. can you spot the That's What She Said above?

I love bowling these guys, I break out my heavy oil ball and dry his line out and force him to move. I love when they finish the night 100 or more pins under average and wondering what happened to them.

Haha I will SO do that to someone who doesn't know how to play various lines some day. My heaviest oil balls, however, are my Rival and Black Widow. I don't know if that's enough to dry a line too much but it'd be funny to do.

I'm going to be joining a PBA League on May 20th. I really don't care that it's tougher, in fact I prefer it. I'm all about getting better and learning to play tighter lines is one way to go about it.

As for those really easy house shots, I really don't see any of those in this area. At least, not in a way where everyone can average 200. In my opinion, averaging 200+ means you're doing something right at the houses around here. Some are easier than others of course. For example, the house that has synthetic lanes 10 minutes away from my local house is considered easy. This may be true because my local house has a different surface(not sure), but to me I wouldn't bowl dramatically better in one house compared to another unless one house is just plain hard.

I'm not incredibly accurate but I get by. I carry 201 and 209 averages in the same house. The 201 average is a second shift league where we get stuck with the carry down and it's a little drier, not much. The 209 is a fresh oil league so I do better obviously. To me these averages mean something because I'm bowling better than the people that I should be. The high average in the second shift league is 207 and the next is 203, putting me in 3rd for high average.

In the fresh oil league the high youth bowler is somewhere around 228 but I'm not sure where I stand in that one. I think I have 3rd or 4th high average in that one depending on how the same people beating me in second shift league are doing here. They're no higher than 215 though so I'm in good shape in my opinion.

Anyways what I'm getting at is I don't think there's super easy shots around here and averaging 200-210 is not something to frown upon.

had another good thursday night. my son shot a 573 3 game series!!! he has about a 130 average, he was on fire! i soo wanted to see him hit 600, but none the less, he did great.

myself, i started out great with a 225, then promptly fell apart, but had a lot of fun, and we took 3 of 4 points.

Well I found out that the handicap in this Marvel Heroes league isn't based on 90% of 220 lol. So I had zero handicap heading in with my 188 starting average. The kiddo started off very well with a 107 average (he's 9). So he bowls a 137 followed by my 225. I missed two ten pins that game, one being my 2nd shot in the 10th after stringing a double turkey. Second game we both kind of slid and unfortunately lost the game, he shot a 99 followed by my 177. I didn't pickup a single right side spare, and I have a feeling it's the broken or separated rib in my chest that hampered me. Though the kiddos average should go up to a 112, and I should be around a 194. Plus we should be in 1st place still, though we don't get trophies or anything lol.

Summer league started last night. I went, but didn't bowl because of my cracked wrist. But, because I brought 2 of my friends into this league, I felt obligated to at least be there in a strange house to them.

This is a Trio League, 4 games a night. The night was fairly uneventful, as we were beaten by a team that we gave 162 pins cap to, while bowling a man short.

But, I have a question to the board. I finished the year with a disappointing mid 190 average. And, I bowled in this Summer league last year as a sub and had a 218 average for 12 games. Last year, my recorded high book average was 203.

Which average should this league have taken as my basis for handicap? Cap is based on 90%/220.

They took my 218 as a sub from last year, so I got 2 pins cap. Shouldn't it have been either my finish average of the past year? Or at least my sanction average from the year prior?

I say this because, since I didn't bowl, I lost 10 pins a game, and we lost 2 games by fewer than 10 pins and total series by 14 pins. I questioned it, but got no answer. They will look into it.

I contend that my average should have been the mid 190 and cap of 20 plus per game. That would have given us 5 more points on the night.

Dennis, I would contend that you should either use last years book average or even the book average from the end of the fall/winter season. Having a 218 as a sub most likely wouldn't have put you at the minimum number of games to use that average for book, unless you subbed a lot. Which still wouldn't make sense to me... The way I've always understood it with summer leagues is that you set a new average anyways.

There should be something in the rulebook for your league that addresses what average should be used... A lot of leagues will use a previous average in that league if one exists, especially if it is from last year, before using anything else.

I talked to Dennis about this in chat, and the USBC rule is that entering averages are determined by league rule. If the rule is that you use last years league average, that's how it's done. It should be in the By-Laws.

Dennis, I would take the 218 with 1 pin handicap, if you aren't going to be there because your total blind score is higher (209 vs 208) if you are going to be there I would rather have the 203 with the 15 pins handicap. They probably have a rule that you have to use the average from that league regardless of the number of games.
