I can't pick up spares. I said this before, and I will say this again.
I am practicing an inside line for the Summer, and it seems to have thrown my armswing off. I am swinging around myself, especially on spares on the left side. I don't even come close to some. I hit light 4 times, leaving the bucket, and missed them all to the right.
I know I should keep the plane of my swing straight, but I don't know I do it wrong until it is too late. When it works, it works well. but, those spares, ugh.
First game - 156, with 4 opens, 2 buckets, 10 pin, and a washout Second game - 245 with a missed 10 pin, first ball was just beautiful Third game - 198, with 2 opens, bucket got the 5-8 and a split 6-7-10 Fourth game - 188, with 2 opens, picked 2,4,5 off leaving the 8, and a split 4-9
The third game, I was overly conscious of it and my last ball in the tenth was a gutter ball after 2 beautiful strikes. Still averaging 6 strikes per game. My scores should be better.
What is going on? Can't remember my last clean game.
We won 2 of 4 plus series. Lost 2 games by 8 pins and 1 pin. Any spare would have won those games too.

I followed up my monster practice session on Monday with my best official series ever last night, a 642. I had thought I was going to run out of gas because I had a lesson with my coach late that afternoon, but he told me I was going to bowl well in my league, and he was right-on with that assessment. I only had 2 open frames all night: clipped only the front pin of a sleeper 2-8 in the 8th frame of my first game, and threw an attempt at the single 10 pin into the ditch in the 6th frame of the second game. If I had run out of gas, it would've shown in the last game, and that was my best game of the night...a clean 227 where I tossed a hambone starting in the 6th frame. As a team, we took 6 of the available 8 points.
More to come in my blog later...I'm holding off on that so I can wake up a little bit more.
As a final aside, my team faces the team that won the league last year next week, so that's a chance for us to make a statement.

Correction...the open in the first game came in the 9th frame. Just ran out of edit time by the time I noticed. Also, the part that said "and that was my best game of the night" should've read "but that was my best game of the night."

I started bowling with a hook ball at the beginning of January. My goals for my summer league was to get my first 600 series in league and try to keep my average in the 170s. Well i bowled a 607 sunday with a 181, 251 and a 175. My second game i opened with seven strikes but left the eighth frame open. My average right now is 178.

Welcome to these forums bradw...congrats on your first 600 and I hope you have many more posts here like your first one. I remember shooting a 244 first game in my first 600 in league many years ago, so I know the feeling. Try to remember what you did in that second game and repeat it. And keep practicing...hard work in practice does indeed pay off in competition.
My blog of last night is now up, BTW.
