I think I'm going to test my theory out this week and have a beer or two. I choked the last game 252-215-169!! Splitsville 4-9, big 4 and pocket 7-10 in the same game. I'm one game from being back to where I was preinjury, oh well if the beer doesn't work then I have something to blame right? lol j/k

Hey guys on the subject of beer and bowling I have bowled with and without and have scored high games with a few beers so I think it really depends on how you handle alcohol. As Allen said there's another thread with lots of good responses. Monday nights (tonight) are $1 draws and I usually have 1 beer per game (3 beers).. seems to suit me fine
Friday league didn't go great, we've dropped down to 2nd place (by 1 point). We only won 1 point despite me having a pretty decent series (550's). Will be looking for another 6 tonight. Good bowling!

Well in about 2 hours it's time for the weekly trek to the lanes for league. We took 5 of 7 last week and are bowling the last place team of the league tonight so we'll most certainly be looking for maximum points. We've also won at least the majority of points for each of the last 3 weeks so we'll be looking to keep our climb up the charts going.
On the beer topic, I tend to drink steadily during league but never to the point where I hurt my team. I don't have class on Tuesdays so Monday for league is basically my night out during the week and I do it up right. When I bowled my first 200 on Christmas night of last year I needed a ride to and from the alley and I've heard a lot of recreational bowlers tell me their best games came when they were 3 sheets to the wind. I invented a theory on all of this... I call it the Alcohol Peak Theory. It states that after a certain amount of alcohol is consumed one's skill in bowling actually heightens temporarily. You see this also in pool where people who couldn't sink a shot to save their lives (me) actually start to sink a ball or two after some brewskis. However it's important to maintain this level because if you drink too much then your skills, along with basic motor functions, rapidly decline thereby cancelling out the brief advantage you enjoyed while at the Alcohol Peak.
Tough luck out there for ya Tyveil on Friday though being only a point off the top you should be ok to make it up in the coming weeks. Hopefully I have a good report later tonight as I've been bowling really well these last few weeks so maybe that will translate into the elusive 500 league series for me tonight.

Arrrrrrgh! Another horrible night on the lanes.. it is really beginning to P*** me off! Our pair of lanes were so dry that my ancient Columbia ProHook was too strong for the conditions and my son's Tornado was so violent on the backends that it was unusable. His White Dot hooked 10 boards at 28km/h! Not a happy night for our team.. one point of eleven and I averaged 134 for the night. The opposition are "at the headpin" straight bowlers who have been little affected by changing lane conditions during the season... they head the competition by miles. The three teams in the league comprising all bowlers who bowl with a hook are now the bottom three. We are not a happy bunch of bowlers right now. Ok.. 'nuff grizzling from me. Next week is Beer Experiment time.. I will report my findings as soon as I am capable! Good luck and good bowling to all. Allan

Remember Allan... a pint of Guinness is your friend
The team had an exceptionally frustrating night to say the very least. We lost 2 games by a COMBINED 3 pins. It doesn't get much more irritating than that. I assume most of you know how I felt after league ended but if you haven't suffered a close loss like that I hope you never do. The rest of the team did alright but it seemed that in those 2 losses one person just entirely lost command of their shot and went well below average. We managed to take a game and total pins so it wasn't a total wash but it's irritating knowing that if we bowled to potential or even approaching that we'd have swept.
As for me my trend of doing hideously bad during the first 5 frames of the first game and then rebounding for a respectable score continued. I ended up with a 131 my first game and shot a 162 and 178 my 2nd and 3rd for a 471 set. I know that if I can ever work out the kinks early in my first game I could shoot a 500 so hopefully I can pull that off next week.
Hopefully all do well this week in their leagues.

My bowling seemed to be getting together. All the practice time and coaching is giving its rewards now.
Last friday I bowled a 209, a 212 and a ugly 141, but overall I averaged a 187 for the night and we took all 7 points, that helped us move up several spots.
Last night on my wednesday league I bowled a 201, a 208 and a 171 for a nice 580 series and an overal 193 average for the night. I got the bowler of the week prize on this league.

Good to see you guys are knocking them down in fine fashion (the pins, that is) and scoring well. Don't stress too much about that first game Brian, you are possibly too tensed up trying to do well and once that game has gone into the bin with a ratty front five frames you are relaxing a bit and start scoring well. I used to do that quite a lot, too. These days I just concentrate on making a good shot for my first ball and work with what is left on the lane after that. That has been getting me through my starts with better results. Keep it up, though because it looks like your season goals are getting ever closer. Hi Lefont, you are really putting the scores on the board now. Well done, keep it going and good luck to all for your next outings. Cheers, Allan
