Well we got our butts handed to us tonight. First game was unbelievable. We were already giving 120 pins on handicap. To make matters worse I think they got their christmas wish. The highest average for that team was a 144 and that guy came out throwing a scratch 256 the first game......OUCH!!!! I think the second game we were left dazed and confused, it took us too long to capitalize and compensate. Third game we got it back together though and everyone shot respectively above their average. We only took 1 of 5. The team we played however though was a joy to play against, they were very upbeat and positive the whole night. Alot of teams could do well to follow their example. Oh and just to show how odd the night went...I picked up a 4,7,9,6 split. Ya, I got lucky, barely tagged the four and creamed the seven, 4 rolled over and bumped the 9 just enough to fall forward and domino the 6. Ofcourse after a second of bewilderment I raised my arms in a "TADA!" fashion, bowed like I meant to do that, then said all my subconscious thank you's to the powers that be.

Well done Murph.. Christmas wishes were answered. Mrsuthern.. you weren't bowling against Murph, were you? LOL. Never mind, that's the way the game goes, sometimes. I know that I have been on the end of a few of those, but I have also dished a couple out as well. Glad that you enjoyed your day, anyway. Sounds as though the opposition helped make getting hammered a little less of an ordeal, though. Good luck to all for your next rounds. I will have to get my tail down to the alley for some practice.. league starts first Tuesday in Feb.. not long to go..Yahoo!

How will you guys deal with the holiday layoff? We've been away from our league since the 18th, and we won't resume until the 6th of Jan. I've practiced a few times just to stay focused on footwork, placement and such, the mental aspect I figure will not come into play until the league resumes. What are some things you do to prepare yourself after a long lay off? This is a Sunday league.

I for one needed a break, but I'm glad we're starting back tomorrow night. I've been practicing a lot and doing what my coach wants me to do, and I'm hitting 200s nearly every other game now. I think in league tomorrow I've got a really good chance of getting two games over the 200 mark, and also a good chance of getting over 200 considerably. The first half of the season I only average 151 and was only over 200 once - which I don't guess is so bad considering its my first season at all and I've been bowling under a year. This second season I'm going to improve my average to 175.
Keep it up Mutilated, you got the best weapon weapon already that you could have.....determination. Bigbowll, we don't have a "relax" period. It's a monday night mixed, "money" league. WE bowled the day after christmas and we bowl this Monday too. Somebody had to actually stop me and tell me were in the second half. One reason this is my first adult league, second I had no idea it was split into "halves", this is my first season back after 15 yrs of being out of the sport.

We haven't had a lay-of either, not that I need one though. We start the 2nd half tonight. I bought some of that Ron C's magic carpet for my ball and I have to say i really like it. I have gotten about 10-15 games of practice this week and I can really feel the difference. For any of you that use tape, and i would assume almost all do, I would recommend checking this stuff out.

We finally start back up Friday nights tonight after a week layover. I played my normal nights during the time off to stay with my routine. Learned a few things in practice, one of which is my primary strike ball the ring fingertip is too small. I've always had to jam it in and it still doesn't get to the knuckle. During Monday league I switched to my older ball (Quantum) which has much looser fingertips and I ended up getting 6 strikes in a row on both the 2nd and 3rd game. That's really good for me considering I have only gotten 7 in a row once before and 6 in a row one other time.
Seeing as how I won't have time to have new fingertips put in my new ball before league tonight, I may be using the good old trusty Quantum again.

went tonight missing our #1 bowler. It shouldn't have mattered but for some reason it did. I bowled good for 2 games and 8 pins under for 1 but the team didn't respond. Oh well, There is always next week. I started with a 168 avg and bolwed a 234,222,160. We did a few shots between 2nd and 3rd game I I fully believe it affected m as I missed three 1 pin spares. Mad at myself but we were just having fun so i will write this one off. Game is improving and I am happy with that.

Tonight was great. We won 3 games and only lost 1.
First game, first ball up I hit my mark exactly but misjudged my starting spot and I left a 2-4-5. Oh well, so after that an easy pick up, I moved over one board and left a solid 10 on the next frame. Well I remembered Erin Actobash was telling us in the other thread that leaving a 10 was good 'cause it means you are just a little ahead of the shot, so I moved back right 1/2 a board and tossed three strikes in a row! Then I missed my mark, and left my only open of the game. Followed that up with a spare, and then finished the game with strikes for my best score in league ever - 234!.
Second game I had some strikes, but opened twice and didn't get so many strikes all in a row. Missed my mark I was aiming at twice, but recovered nicely and scored a 174 - also above my average.
Third game, I kind of screwed it up right from the start. For some reason I decided to play with my other ball instead, and looking back on it that was really where it started to go wrong. Anyway the first couple frames I shot with it my thumb stuck really bad, so then I pulled the tape out. Well then it still stuck so, so I put some super-slide on my thumb. Well then I was dropping the ball, so I went back to the ball I started with, but then my thumb was sticking in it too, so took the tape out and then nearly dropped it. Well to make a long story short, I only made one spare the first 4 frames, allthough once I went back to the ball I started with things went much better. I got a few strikes and the rest of the game spares and ended with a 148, not quite average but someone on the other team got really hot and between their good bowler and my stumble at the start of the third game we lost by nearly 100 pins.
We still had enough pins overall to win the fourth game though, and I should have brought my average up a couple of points to 153.
