Missed a 300 by leaving a 10 pin in the 10th frame!!!!! I picked it up and and finished with a 279 - 11 strikes and a 10 pin spare. My new high score

It has happened to a lot of us. Whether it is in the 1st frame, 2nd frame, or 12th frame, the 10 pin has bit a lot of us at one time or another. I have (2) 299s to my credit, both 10 pins. I have a few 290s to my credit. All but 1, 10 pin. My 288 and 289 game, 10 pins. At least it wasn't in the first frame, you miss it the 10, and then go off the sheet for a 279. I have seen that done a few times.

Knowing how close you came to a 300 will make it easier next time. We all curse the 10 pin. In HS, my best friends last name was pronounced tenpin. When I would leave one, I would say: Dammit Rodney. In college on the bowling team, we named all of the pins. The 10 pin was Bob (no idea why). I have cursed his name many of nights

Nice game puffer. Been there, done that. And, too many times. More on the 279 side than the 299 side. My last 298 left a 10 with his 8 pin cousin.

It's kinda like nabbing that 4 pound bass and having him spit the hook at you right at the boat.

A 279 would be 9 in a row, followed by a 10 pin leave in the tenth frame which was spared, and a strike on your fill ball.

A 289 would be 10 in a row followed by a 10 pin leave which was converted into a spare.

A 299 would be the first 11 strikes and 9 pins(ex a 10 pin leave) on your final ball.

But anyway, congratulations on a great game. Keep it up!

Nice game Puffer. I wish my first time going for a 300 was a properly executed 10 pin leave instead of a pulled 3-10 split on the eleventh strike attempt, that I then pulled the spare attempt. My next chance at it I almost left a 10 in the middle on a great shot but a messenger took it out . I finished that game off.

I have to make a correction though - After looking at my print out, John is correct. 9 strikes then a 10 pin spare followed by a strike. Nice catch Jim.

Nice game!! The ten pin has ruined many a night for me. There are a TON of honor scores left on the table due to this pin. What makes it even more fun it's the one real pin you run hot and cold converting if you are right handed. If you can string that many you can string a few more and get that 300 game. It's about telling yourself you can as cliche as that sounds.
