Eraser, I don't understand the pricing of PBA patterns for practice. Why is it so low, when the House explained that the cost of PBAX league was higher.
We have the first 6 lanes oiled on Monday, the same as the Tues league schedule, so bowlers can practice on the same pattern. I bowled 8 games, and there were only 2 others bowling. The prize money is less than $6 a week. So, I would pay $96 over 16 weeks. The most I can expect in return would $110-120 if I win the 1st place prizes.
Other than the competition, which really isn't much, you might as well only bowl the practice. I view this competition as Me against the lane, not my opponent.
So far in 2 weeks, I have practiced 14 games on Cheetah at a cost of less than $12. In 3 weeks of league, 12 games on Cheetah for a House cost of over $30. Go figure????? Your price is even better.
A practice fee of $2 per game would not be unreasonable. Open bowling on other nights is $3.49 per game or $20 per hour. So, who's paying the freight? PBA practice is a bargain.

Dennis,
The only thing I can figure is that the house is really is trying to promote the PBAX league for future summer leagues, or even alternative additional winter leagues. We have 24 teams on our league with some pretty good bowlers on them, so the competition is there. Thats much more attractive to the house than a regular summer pizza league with 6 teams on it. We have waitresses catering to our beverage needs, its pretty much like a winter league with jackpots, mystery games etc. As far as the cheaper practice rates I should have included that not everyone gets the .33 cents a game price, just the PBAX league bowlers.(An incentive to join the league?)
I think that by the house is banking on the fact if they can offer the PBAX leagues, establish an interest with cheaper practice rates, it will pay off in the long run.

Hey guys - how is everyone doing? I miss you guys.- I am trying to catch up on my reading (been awhile since I have been able to visit ) Very very hectic at work right now. I hope everyone has been well. Eraser - saw the post about your toe - hope everything is feeling better now. I can certainly relate - I fell down 2 steps last Tuesday and really messed my ankle up, thankfully it wasn't broke. Well, I don't think it was I never went to the doctor. Against my families wishes I went to my summer league on Wednesday night - we were bowling someone that I really wanted to bowl against and I wasn't going to miss it. I actually didn't too bad. I am carrying a 158 right now - keeping it steady so far - he has a 219 and with handicap figured in he only beat me by 5 pins total. It was a real close night. I told him not to be disappointed by the close games it just meant that his teaching was finally paying off My team is currently tied for 17th out of 24 teams which isn't too bad for the averages that my team is carrying. I am enjoying the league - it is a mixed league with a WIDE range of averages so it keeps it interesting. Can't wait to see how we do tonight.

Hey Melissa, Nice to hear from you! Glad to hear that your ankle was'nt broke, and your bowling pretty good too. I am trying out a PBA league this summer and struggling a little,..but its fun and I am enjoying the challenge. Sorry about the Penguins losing to the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Pens are a real good team and should be a force for quite awhile,...along with the Wings ... LOL. Great to hear from you, don't be a stranger.

today i did a make bowl since i missed sunday due to illness. i never ran the scoring on the machine during league so i really didn't know how to do it. i finished practicing and opened with a strike. so looked up at the scoreboard and it said press red button to begin. so i wasted a strike right off the bat and spared the real opening frame. opened with an 188 and 212. so i was really going to try to get my second consecutive 600 game. about the third frame in this dude came up and was chatting my ear off about teaching him how to bowl. it was to the point it was bugging me but i was being nice to him and didn't want to ask him to leave me alone because i was bowling a league game. i started leaving frames open but wasn't getting frustrated. i ended up with a 591 series. so with a wasted strike and a dude bugging me i still almost got the 600.
i really worked on my spares this past week and were knocking them down most of the series. i think 600 series are just right around the corner for me. i moved my goal to get a 650 series now. i raised my average to a 188.
more practice tomorrow.

I had a week off due to a trip to Florida. The little bit of rest has helped as has going back to older hand position. I shot 225-232-247 for a 704 series. As a team we didnt do as well, lost 5 of 7 points.
I did how ever push the average to 219.x in a more difficult house. My confidence is pretty good and the shoulder is OK so my goal of 225+ average for the Summer is certainly doable.

I posted a video on the chat Room this am, and got some really good feedback. Tonight, I focused on controlling some of those problems we saw. Had some good success staying behind the ball but, on a comfortable straight up line. shot 222, 228 to start. Then the oil started to break down, and I moved to play an inside line that I have trouble with. Bang, all of my problems started again, early turn, pulling. It happens when I move left. Shot a 160. So, I had to beat it in the 4th game. Actually, I did have a good shot in the tenth of the previous game, and I stuck with it. And, there it was, X X X X X X X solid 9 pin / then X X another 9 pin / for a 268. 878 for my 4 game set. That last game really felt good. I finally rolled well from the inside. We only lost the last game by 2 pins, but won the rest. So, 7 of 9 points.
