Summer leagues are great for keeping one in "bowling shape" for the real bowlers. I've seen bowlers that don't touch a ball all summer long and it shows for the first month or more of league. Practicing really isn't enough since there is no competition to keep the competitive nature.

I got my team on Thursday of last week. I texted my buddy to see if he wanted to bowl. He had just had his best night of the year otherwise he would have said no. I went to the lanes yesterday morning because I am getting my stuff redrilled and I saw one of my teammates from last summer. He asked me if we were still bowling together. I told him that I sent him a message a few weeks ago and he never responded so I got another team. I could tell that he was a bit pissed. Oh well.

I definitely won't be bowling the summer league I was thinking of doing, and not for the reasons that could have been the problem. Its a bowl at your convenience type league. Yeah, its only a merchandise league, but I can just take the money I would spend on the league to get the ball. I'd still rather bowl a real league format even if it is just for fun, not whenever I want to and have no real head to head competition.

I'm not sure what it is, I just found out today thats what it is going to be. A guy that bowls in a few leagues I am in was telling me thats what its going to be. I've heard of a few leagues like this, never seen one in the centers I've bowled in. Some of them you only pay the weeks you bowl. It all depends on how the league is actually going to be set up. If I find out more details on it I'll post them. This just isn't my type of league. I'll either look into another league, or just save the money, do some tournaments, maybe try to sub some over the summer and practice.

I know my 3 lady Coaches on my Tues nite team always bowl together in the Summer. So, I just looked for another team. The thing that impressed me was they asked me to come back next Fall and bowl with them. I guess they accepted me.
I'm one of the gals. I'm a girlfriend.

One of the "PBA" leagues in my area are 5 games a night with moving lanes every game. First game is always a position game and then you can jump all over. Going from 46 to 20 to 1 to 35 to 17 isn't completely out of the question, but they do try to keep it reasonable. I may sub on this league, its singles and you automatically lose if you aren't there and no sub. Then the bowlers against you bowl against the blind of 180 which gets to you mentally and one bad frame throws you off. The bowlers who end up with a blind would much rather have a bowler there, this includes guys like Eddie VanDaniker, Jr. Sounds like fun. A "tournament" league, if you will. Good training for ABT, sweepers, etc...

Why no break from bowling on spring & summer after fall & winter league? The schedule provides me with a break, but I would rather not...so I will pull a couple extra practice sessions. My work schedule puts breaks into the season...
