I figured I would start the board for summer leagues. I know that most of the Fall/Winter leagues are finishing up. Post away.

I'm already signed up for the Wednesday Summer Mixed League at Westgate Lanes, which will start on May 28. It's a pretty standard league...4 to a team, and judging from the last available standings sheet from last year's league on LeagueSecretary.com, they play for individual points as well as team points. Bob Hamilton had the high average in the league last year (241), so I'm sure I'll be seeing plenty of him, as well as Sean Richard, another top bowler here (Sean Richard shot the only 300 in the league). I joined the league mostly because a couple of my cousins (a male first cousin and his wife) will be bowling in it too, although I won't necessarily be on their team.

As many of you know, it'll be my first league in 15 years...wish me well. smile

Wow, I haven't posted here in a very long time! I started my Summer Doubles League a week ago. It was a very nice start. 237,230,216 for a 683. I may also find a PBA EXP. League, but I'm not sure about that yet.

You started your summer league already?! I still have 2 weeks left on one of my winter leagues!

I should be bowling a sport singles league again this summer.

I have my league meeting for my sport league on May 12th and we start bowling on the 19th. I am still trying to get a team. I am heading to that alley tomorrow to talk with the guy at the Pro Shop about my span and pitches. He bowled in the league last year with a Regional Pro. They were a man down most of the year. I'll see if I can pick up with them. Otherwise, I find someone.

Good luck Richie.

The one summer league I was planning on doing, I might not be able to do it. It doesn't start until June 2, so things could change. I was also planning on doing the AMF Baltimore Doubles Tour as much as I could, which starts this weekend, but thats out of the question for now.

Last night of my winter league is May 6, which I will be skipping, because it is the first night of my Summer league. Scratch singles Tough Shot league. It may sanction, may not... It's the PBA shots though. I am pushing for a sanction.

I will cut to one night a week, and hopefully, get a lot of practice in. I will bowl in a Wed Night Trio League, 4 games per night.

I am bowling on a PBA league starting on May 15th. Its a two man team, 4 games per night. I'm pretty geeked because I will be bowling with a very good bowler as my teamate and I hope to tap into his expertise and learn alot this summer.

In addition to that most of our winter league team are going to get together once a week and practice,..have a few beverages..it should be fun.

Well my last week of my fall/winter league is this Saturday night. We're hoping to be fighting for a spot in the top 5! I'll most likely be joining an adult/youth league with the kiddo. Take advantage of AMF's 3 free games of bowling everyday during the summer. Then I'm thinking about joining a sport league as well at the local Brunswick Zone. The sport league starts the 27th of April, so I need to get on the ball. Then the adult/youth league will start the 4th of May (I think) lol. Best of luck to everyone during your summer leagues!

Good luck Coach, I know your knee recovery must be going well if you expect to be bowling soon. Good news, sir.

I'll be bowling in my first leagues ever, this summer. I'm signed up for a Sunday evening mixed 2-person teams, as well as a Tuesday evening mixed 4-person team. Can't wait to roll!

I've got 3 weeks left in my winter league, then my summer league starts in mid May. Finishing a 5 man league and moving into a doubles league. It's always an interesting change in pace to adjust to.

Good luck to those other ending and starting leagues.

I have 4 weeks left in one of my winter leagues, but the other is done. We start the PBA league the first week of May. Scratch singles, bowl a 2 game match, move and bowl another.

One of the "PBA" leagues in my area are 5 games a night with moving lanes every game. First game is always a position game and then you can jump all over. Going from 46 to 20 to 1 to 35 to 17 isn't completely out of the question, but they do try to keep it reasonable. I may sub on this league, its singles and you automatically lose if you aren't there and no sub. Then the bowlers against you bowl against the blind of 180 which gets to you mentally and one bad frame throws you off. The bowlers who end up with a blind would much rather have a bowler there, this includes guys like Eddie VanDaniker, Jr.

Mine is 4 people per lane, 4 games, move after the 2nd game, but, each game, you're bowling against everyone in the league. So if there are 20 guys there, you get 20 points for winning the game.

Last year, the blind was 150, and you were just bowling the people on your pair, so 4 for first. I cannot tell you how many times the blind beat me. I'm really looking forward to this year though - my game is much better now, and I think I will be able to play any line the lanes demand from me. My goal is to avg 180. I'd really like to get 190. We'll see.

AABPA Travel League starting May 12th, and a PBA X League starting the next night.

Should get a better understanding of myself with better/different conditions this summer.

Paul,
some people dont take a brake from bowling and bowl all year around. I usually bowl year around and will use the summer to better my game and make any changes i need to in my game.

Summer leagues are great for keeping one in "bowling shape" for the real bowlers. I've seen bowlers that don't touch a ball all summer long and it shows for the first month or more of league. Practicing really isn't enough since there is no competition to keep the competitive nature.

I got my team on Thursday of last week. I texted my buddy to see if he wanted to bowl. He had just had his best night of the year otherwise he would have said no. I went to the lanes yesterday morning because I am getting my stuff redrilled and I saw one of my teammates from last summer. He asked me if we were still bowling together. I told him that I sent him a message a few weeks ago and he never responded so I got another team. I could tell that he was a bit pissed. Oh well.

I definitely won't be bowling the summer league I was thinking of doing, and not for the reasons that could have been the problem. Its a bowl at your convenience type league. Yeah, its only a merchandise league, but I can just take the money I would spend on the league to get the ball. I'd still rather bowl a real league format even if it is just for fun, not whenever I want to and have no real head to head competition.

I'm not sure what it is, I just found out today thats what it is going to be. A guy that bowls in a few leagues I am in was telling me thats what its going to be. I've heard of a few leagues like this, never seen one in the centers I've bowled in. Some of them you only pay the weeks you bowl. It all depends on how the league is actually going to be set up. If I find out more details on it I'll post them. This just isn't my type of league. I'll either look into another league, or just save the money, do some tournaments, maybe try to sub some over the summer and practice.

I think my center had one or tried one of those this year. It was unsanctioned it was actually called lunch league. Cause you bowled two games and got a free lunch (Soda, Sandwhich, & Chips). It was every friday at 1030am. I dont anyone signed up so it never got off the ground.

I know my 3 lady Coaches on my Tues nite team always bowl together in the Summer. So, I just looked for another team. The thing that impressed me was they asked me to come back next Fall and bowl with them. I guess they accepted me.

Sounds like fun. A "tournament" league, if you will. Good training for ABT, sweepers, etc...

The schedule provides me with a break, but I would rather not...so I will pull a couple extra practice sessions. My work schedule puts breaks into the season...

Just to update a couple of things from the sign-up period, my cousins put in their team, and I was surprised to learn that their younger daughter will be joining them. A real family affair...hehehehe!

There had been two bowlers on the sign-up board without a team...myself and one other bowler. The other bowler has found a team, and the team the guy that does the lanes in the afternoon is on has a vacancy, so I left a message for him w/ the program director that if he wants, I'd be more than happy to join his team. smile

It does have many tournament bowlers, including some regional PBA bowlers and a few that hit some of the Tour stops. Of course it also has some house bowlers and then even some lower average bowlers, and its an invitational league so not exactly easy to get into. It takes up the 46 of 48 lanes with 2 people a lane totaling almost 92 bowlers. They try to leave a pair open for breakdowns. There was talk of expanding it. I might just stay out of leagues this summer, maybe do a little subbing and definitely some practicing and hit up the weekend doubles tournaments. Maybe make some money off of them to use for a coach to help fix a few things.

Looks like a few buddies are going to put their "bro'ness" aside and pair up with a few ladies in the two-person mixed league I entered. Will be fun to see them get advice from their female partners, as they need it smile

well, not summer, but spring league is going well. 4 man teams, thursday nights.

i shot well again, 168- 161-157, have been consistantly hitting 480 or over past 5 times out, and it's boosting my confidence alot. missed spares are no longer the end of the world for me, as i now think i can make up for it the next frame.

5 or 6 of us deciced to bowl another game after the league, and tossed in $5 a man for high score, i promptly threw a 193 scratch, and took the pot! best part about that was, i was clean untill the fill ball! struck on 1st ball in 10th, then left a 5-10 split on the second ball and picked the 5 pin. i was happy to only leave one measly pin on the deck for the whole game.

tbill, what do you attribute your success in the pot games to? Were you focused more? Did you concentrate on your target? Was your pace controlled and timing better?

If you could do that under competitive conditions, you can do it any time.

not really sure, to be honest. i think in the long run, i worry more about league scores and raising my average in league, where as the 'pot bowling' in my eyes is a no pressure deal [seems rather backwards]. funny thing is, last three weeks that i've done the 'pot bowling' afterwards, i've won each time, first week i won it with a 211, then the next week was with a 180 something, and this week with a 193. those scores are scratch, as we all get to bowl with our handicap to even it out.

i wish i knew the secret, so i COULD do it all the time cool

Tbill,
Probally you put some unneeded stress on yourself in league and in pot game you just go in and just bowl and have fun. I did the same thing before put too much stress to get my average, look at score board too much and say i need to mark here and there to make my average. When i do that i bowl much better in league though sometimes i have to remind myself or i fall back into that old routine.

Ok change of plans for me. No leagues, no tournaments, no practice, I'm just going to sell all my equipment and take up a less frustrating sport like cricket. Anyone know how to play that anyways? NO I'm just kidding, I don't even think I'm going to do that many tournaments, and try to use that money more usefully, like maybe getting a coach. When I need 70 pins of handicap to have a 520 series, something is really wrong.

This year my summer league is a 4 person JR/ADULT league setup 2 adults and 2 jrs. The first year I joined this league with my daughter, it was to get her into bowling and for me to work on throwing straight at my spares. This year my normal fall league will be changing houses to my summer league house. So I will be more focused on finding a consitent line to the pocket.

This will be the 3rd house in 4 years for the fall league. First house was a nice wood lane surface. Second house was a so-so house with very worn/high friction wood surface. My summer league house is a top of the line house with very well maintained synthetic (sp?) lanes.

Summer League starts May 6th and I hope to get some videos of myself and daughter on here for some criticism.

Cal... 15 lb balls in your future? ;-) j/k my friend!

I've found a few girls my age to pair up with myself and friends for the 2-person mixed team league this summer, so I'm happy about that. Looking forward to starting on June 1st.

My teammates from fall league invited me to bowl in a three-person scratch league this summer. It'll be a different experience from last summer, when I bowled in a have-a-ball league without prize money.

I'll have to commit to bowling twice a week all summer, since I'll be working to score during league rather than improving my mechanics. I had a good time with these guys in fall league, though, so it should be a lot of fun to bowl in a scratch league with them.

again, i'm still in 'spring leagues', but one i'm in is a 'dutch deal', where one throws the first ball, and the other makes the spare, i'm doing it with my 17 year old son, and doing it to help my spare shooting/have fun.

well, this past tuesday, we had a night! now, remember, this IS a fun thing, but there is still some competition. we shot a 511 3 game series! 158, 195, 158. most series are around 430 or so for the 'league' as it's a fun league, but boy, we just really had our poop together for the second game, we only had 1 open [kid missed a 10 pin].

not much more fun can be had than bowling with your kid, and scoring well while doing it!

I've only did Scotch Doubles as pot games, and plan on trying to do a few Scotch Doubles tournaments at the local Bowl America this summer.

Alrighty, so the adult/youth "Marvel Heroes" League kicked off yesterday. We look to be starting off pretty good. Granted the handicap I calculated we should take two out of three. So the 1st game the kiddo shoots a 116 followed by my 184. The 2nd game he missed a lot more spares shooting a 99 followed by my 193. The lanes were burnt up making me wonder why they don't put some fresh oil down for these adult/youth leagues lol. I found that playing a 10 board out to about 6-8 at the breakpoint was working the best. Plus I had to throw it a bit faster to keep it from rolling too early. Fortunately I was getting some nice consistent revs with my Battle. The Cell just wanted to go nuts, and the Saturn just wasn't finishing for me. So here's to the start of another season!
