So it's almost time for the tournament, and I'm curious how I would figure out what my handicap will be? I will be taking last years 149 average into the tournament, and the handicaps are based off 90% of 220. Any help, as usual, is greatly appreciated!

220 - 149 = 71

71 * .9 = 63.9

So you'll get 63 or 64 pins per game

When you see that type of handicapping, its 90% of the difference of your average and 220. So it would be 220-149=71 and then 71*.9=63.9 and since in bowling we never round up its 63.

When it comes to just 3 games where series total is the determining factor of winning some tournaments will then go with 90% of 660(220*3). So it would be 660-(149*3)=660-447=213, then 213*.9=191.7 which will be 191 and would be added to the total.

Are you sure that you can use last years average? Some tournaments may require you to use this years average at a certain date if you are 10 pins over the book average. If you are able to use last years, make sure you score well. Good luck and high scoring.

Thanks guys, I was wondering how that stuff all worked...

To answer your question infernocal, I am able to use last years book average as it states in the rule sheet that you use that first if you have one. If not you use a sanctioned summer league average, and if that's not available then you use your 21 game average from the current season.

Since that is the case I hope you can take full advantage of the handicap you are getting. I was getting about 90 over three games last season in some doubles tournaments and often had trouble breaking 600 with the handicap on house shots. Yet in league I was busting out 650+ on a regular basis.

Thanks infernocal! I truly feel I will have an even better outing than I did last year at state. Luckily I made it in with my 142 average (after 21 games) and I averaged a 168 over the weekend. That was before I'd even met my coach lol. Which he straightened out my approach/timing, and now it's just honing the skills to repeatability. smile
