Yesterday opened the 50th Annual Vermont State Championships and a team from Barre VT opened with a bang, shooting 3642 for team scratch, and breaking the State Record in the process.

That will be a tough one to beat

I'm new to bowling, but the guy that drills my balls says he has the national record for a 3 man team in one game of 899. Two guys shot 300 and the third shot 299. Anyone know if that is factual or not?

Bluesman, now thats setting the bar high. That would be something to lead the event from the start. Congrats to that team for setting the new State record.

Pin Pals,899 or 897? The record books are still saying 897 by Big Dogs and it was Perry Hall Lanes a couple of years ago. It was two 300s and a 297 at the time, I remember reading about it. How it must feel to be the one that didn't throw the 300.

You're right. It was a 897. He has the score card hanging on the wall.

Cal you and I will have our hands full trying to break the MD state record, it broke the record set by the Budweiser team back in the 50s by a team from Greenway back in the 80s, it was over 3700, maybe higher than 3800 I can't remember, and was high team set for at least 10 years. I can't find the records since it has been broken several years ago by several teams, the new high in the country is 3934 for 5 man team.

3954 is a crazy score. The thing with record breaking team sets is that you need exceptional bowlers, and they all have to be on at the same time, preferably with a score-able shot.

790 for one bowler is a great day, but all five... amazing

5 people averaging 790 a piece? That one should stand for a looooong time.

I found 3782 in Maryland in 2003. I think getting a full team to average 650 a man for a set is good, but to do 750+ is outstanding. I could see a few of the guys in my Monday league band together to do it, but then its still getting them all to do well. The way to do this is like Nationals, lane management and be of similar styles so you can feed off of each others shots. If everyone can play the same line and execute adjustments are easier to make. Of course you need the Pin Gods on your side to carry that much.

A few years ago the Kegel Training center was going to have a tournament where they were going to provide the easiest possible lane conditions, they were offering a share in 1 million dollars to any team that could break 4000 for set. It fell through due to lack of sponsorship and participation, but I would have liked to have been there for that.
