I am wondering if anyone knows a better way on how to do markings on frames to keep a close estimate on who is winning during a match. The way I do it is to add 1 point for every closed frame. If the person scores lower than a 4 after that, I would subtract 1 point. Now if the person hits a double, for the first strike, it is a 1 and for the second strike, I would add a 2. I would do the same when a person strikes after a spare. I know it is not the best estimate, so I am wondering if there is a better way. Thanks in advance.

UGH, I remember those days. When I first moved to the Valley, I bowled at a center that didn't have autoscoring. The way the scorekeepers (people) did it was every mark was worth 1 and if you got a 5 or less on a spare they took one away. I'm sure doubles or strings were worth more than one, but I honestly don't remember how they handled it.

What I hated, was how often it was wrong. People going 7/7/ were not any different than someone going x/x/x/. I was relieved when they finally went to autoscores--and I didn't have to pay a scorekeeper on top of my league fees.

Why not just use the correct scoring system? It's not that hard to figure up.

The school lanes I play in requires us to score by hand. And my teammates and I do better when we don't score during the match (it takes away the pressure of keep looking at the sheet). However, since I am nosy, I would like to keep a close tab on who's winning.
