Ive been reviewing balls using several websites and many seem to have different criteria for ranking ball characteristics (hook, length, breakpoint, etc.)

Bowlersjournal seems to have more info and they use something like [ 53 Hook; 14 Length; 15.5 Breakpoint Shape ] however I have never seen where they give the scale (low-high) so I have nothing to base those #s on ... is 53/65, 53/60, 53/ 100, 53/200?

Does anyone know what the scales that bowlersjournal are using for those 3 characteristics?

Thanks.

I often wondered about the same things. They never list any scale top and bottom. They don't tell you how they come up with such a scale. At least when Brunswick lists their balls, they give you a maximum and a minimum on their scale. The only good it does me is I get to compare different companies balls to each other.

I think they should stick to a simple scale. Like either 1-10 or 1-100. I look at the length numbers and the backend numbers. I know that if the length is 10-12, the ball goes into its forward roll pretty early. 13-14 is medium length. 15 and above is pretty lengthy.

Yep, I wish all the companies would list their scales or maybe even adopt a standard scale across the industry. Sure would make it a lot easier to compare. As far as being a consumer the #'s are worthless if they don't provide a scale.

Length could be a scale of 1-60 - makes pretty good sense.
Hook Potential and breakpoint shape/angle could be pretty much anything, just need to know what the scale is.
