The eleventh frame just got me a few weeks ago, it wasn't going to be a 300 but if I finished it off a 290, but it was a ringing 10 which I covered for a 279. The eleventh did cost me my first chance at a 300 but it was a bad shot altogether. Just keep throwing the ball good.

I've only been one frame away from a 300 once, but it came in the 7th frame for a 279. I've broken 250 more times than I could count, though and I've been happy with that. A 300 would be nice, but I've won lots of money off of 250 or better games so I can't complain. I'll get it someday and I probably won't be doing anything different than I normally do.
Edit: Well, more than once, I guess. But only one had a shot at being a strike.

I've only shot a 279 with eleven strikes once, it was in practice. I was in the 260s once with eleven strikes in the game as well, some split or something right in the middles, again practice. These were within a couple of weeks of my 300. My 279 a couple of weeks ago was after being put out of the bracket by my own teammate.

It is funny how things happen with the 300. When I shot my first sanctioned one, I bowled a Monday night league and used to practice on Sunday mornings. Well, the Sunday morning, I was really zoned in and I had the front 9, then I left a pocket 7-10. I started laughing and then said, "Well, I'd rather do it in league anyway." Next night in league, I shot the 300 my last game.
Keep on plugging away at it, as you get close more and more often, your confidence increases. First time I had front 11, I threw a marshmallow of a 12th shot and it had no hope of carrying the 10 pin. It took me almost 4 years to get the front 11 again, but I always said to myself that I never wanted to throw a 12th ball the way I did that other time. It did work and I got the 12th one that time. Being that it was in practice too, I was more confident when I got the front 11 in league. It's all about experience.

One day you will get that 300. It sounds as though you are throwing the ball great, but just not getting a break. Just as Brandon said, "it will come when you least expect it". Thats how it happened to me, all of the sudden you get on a roll, when for that game anyways you can do no wrong. Anytime you lace up your bowling shoes there is a potential 300 waiting for you. Hang in there ...it will come.

Its funny how 300 games work. The most pressure I've ever felt was when I threw mine, and playing 8 different sports I've been in some of the most pressure packed situations you can be in in them. The thing about bowling is you have so much more time to think about it than you do in anything else since every other sport is almost all reactionary. So far I'm 3 for 3 in my 11th and 12th frames (two 300's and a 290) but who's to say I won't leave a dead 10 in the 12th of my next one?
