Many of you will remeber last year when we planned on going to the Reno tour stop we had a delay due to a snow storm that closed the road (Interstate 80) to Reno from Sacramento. Well its now time again for the Reno stop and once again....SNOW.

There is scheduled a series of storms they are now touting as "storms of the year" to hit beginning Thurs afternoon. We had planned on leaving after work on Thurs. The forecast said there'd be slight break on Saturday but by then most of the bowling is done. We had planned on going Thurs. evening and coming back Sat. afternoon.

Now since the storm is supposed to hit Thurs afternoon we are tentativly planning on leaving Thurs. am. But how we are going to get back is anyone's guess because they were very non committal about the Saturady break in the weather. Though they did say that another storm was coming in on Sunday.

To the Tweeties.....you are in Oakhurst. I had to look it up in a road atlas. You are by Merced and it doesn't look like any easy way of getting to Reno from your area except through many smaller mountain hwys.

Now why the PBA schedules a stop in an area that is routinely snowed in this time of year is beyond me. Why not make it at the beginning or tail end of the tour stops so that more people have a chance of visiting.

Erin, don't trust the weathermen. We were supposed to have a light dusting with the major part of the storm going South. Well, a total of 10 inches is in my drive. If that is a dusting, I hate to see what is South.

I know Reno gets it so bad that roads close and access is very limited. Don't get stranded. Be careful.

Erin,

They're saying that Thursday should be rainy in the afternoon. Saturday looks like heavy snow.

So getting there on Thursday should be lot easier than getting home Saturday.

But I agree with Dennis that the weather forecasters are often proven very wrong, especially when they try to guess what will happen 4 days from now.

If your schedule is flexible, just play it by ear. And being stuck in Reno on a Saturday night might be kinda fun -- lots to do there.

What kind of accumulation are they predicting? It seems Reno to Sacramento wouldn't get that much..? But then again, with the typical winters in that part of the country the plowing system is minimal so even an inch of snow on the roads can be extremely bad for people that aren't used to it. And I'm also talking from the snowiest place in the country in Syracuse, NY so anything less than like 5 feet isn't a lot to me *shrug*.

10 feet at the top. Two to four feet on Thurs, but its supposed to keep going with a slight break on Sat. and resume on Sunday.

You've heard of the Donner party right? We cross right over where they got stuck.

Actually the forecast for tonight is "mostly dark" since there's still a bit of the moon left =P. New moon isn't till the 8th so that night is when it'll be "fully dark" lol.

Ok in all seriousness, Reno getting 10 feet of snow is really weird.

Also, 8 inches of snow isn't a "light dusting," its a "what, it snowed?"!

Erin

It's unfortunately the time of year. They can get snowed in to Buffalo and Detroit as well. In fact a few weeks ago Missy and Tennelle were treated to a white out while driving from one stop to another. Short of changing their "season" the entire country has to deal with weather issues on tour.
