I didnt care for "ten pin party in the pit" ... nor did I care for the "drop and give me ten".

I did like the fact that I didnt have to watch WRWJ leave it open 10 times. LOL

The "ten pin party in the pit" had me laughing when he said it, and the nickel one was meh.

Rob does at least ask questions and doesn't try and act like he knows everything (read: John Madden, Bryant Gumble, Skip Bayless). The big thing about bowling though is that you can't really ask about something unless you see it in front of you. Bowling more than any other sport has terms and leaves that are so weird that unless you see them in front of you you can't really think to look it up or ask about it.

Timotheus, they rolled on the Shark yesterday. I would have liked to hear some discussion on playing that pattern. It is the toughest for me, and the book says to move inside. That is not what Barnes did. He was the only bowler who played outside, which requires great accuracy and speed control.

Stone isn't capable of that conversation, and if Petersen got into it, Stone would have to be silent. That is one of the shortfalls to Stone.

They talked about the pattern a little bit, or at least Petersen did, and Rob did ask about it some. My knowledge of the patterns is pretty minimal (which is why I'm looking to join a sport/PBA experience league in the fall) but out of everyone on the telecast yesterday, Barnes was the only one that would have even been capable of playing the outside.

I would have liked to hear more discussion about the patterns, but relying on a PBA telecast to learn about it is not really the best way to do it. The patterns can string together and they could wind up on a particular pattern for 3-4 weeks at a time, or repeat patterns like say Chameleon-Shark-Chameleon-Chameleon-Scorpion-Shark-Scorpion and not roll on a Viper or Cheetah for weeks. When that happens its hard to have a full knowledge base for each pattern if the telecasts are all you use to learn.

None of us do that (otherwise we wouldn't be on this site in the first place), but I'd rather read articles about the different patterns and go out and throw on them in order to see how my game fits to them and what adjustments I have to make. Unfortunately I still can't do the latter yet =(

That's the shortfall of any broadcast announcer. He's not a color commentator and that's not his role. If Randy wanted to talk about it, Rob's job would be to ask leading questions. They're not "not" talking about it because of Stone. They're not talking about it because that's not what they want them to talk about.

Now, you are back to what I said in my first post. Let Rob ask the question, and let Randy answer it. Glad we came to an agreement.
