Grachki (grach'-key): Chicagoese for "garage key" as in, "Yo, > Theresa, waja do wit da grachki? How my supposta cut da grass if I don't > git intada grach?" > > 2. Sammich: Chicagoese for sandwich. When made with sausage, it's a > sassage sammich; when made with shredded beef, it's an Italian Beef > sammich, a local delicacy consisting of piles of spicy meat in a > perilously soggy bun. > > 3. Da: This article is a key part of Chicago speech, as in "Da Bears" > or "Da Mare" -- the latter denoting Richard M. Daley, or Richie, as he's > often called. > > 4. Jewels: Not family heirlooms or a tender body region, but a popular > name for one of the region's dominant grocery store chains. "I'm goin' > to the Jewels to pick up some sassage." > > 5. Kaminski Park : The mispronounced name of the ballpark where the > Chicago White Sox (da Sox) play baseball. Comiskey Park was renamed U.S. > Cellular Field (da Cell) > > 9. Frunchroom: As in, "Get outta da frunchroom wit dose muddy shoes." > It's not the "parlor." It's not the "living room." Welcome Willard. Thats how I pretty much found this site as well as the other ones I looked at for bowling had either too much fighting between people that just didn't like each other, or too much spam [censored] posts. I'm glad I did as I'm sure you will.

Silvercoach, growing up in Chicago, I never noticed the local slang. After I went away to College and spent a little time in the military, I returned and couldn't understand anyone. The most common Chicago colloquialism is what I intentionally said in My first sentence to Willard. Chicagoans always end a sentence with a preposition. Just trying to make him feel at home.
Welcome, again, Willard. Now, where ya from? Da Burbs? Nort or Sout side? Oh yeah, we drop the H's on those too.

We need your help!
Rather than begging for donations we're asking you to do one simple thing to help keep these forums running smooth:
When shopping for anything on Amazon.com or eBay please use these links to go to the web sites.
This won't cost you a cent!
You'll still get the exact same low prices, deals and free or low cost shipping; it doesn't change anything for you at all! The items do not have to be bowling related; all purchases made through these links help us! Amazon.com and eBay will pay us a small commission for every sale and it's helping us cover the expenses.
