Just wanted to tell everyone about my once in a lifetime night.
I bowl in a men's league in Kent, ohio on Thursday nights.
Last night I had the kind of night you dream about. I got some great advice from an older bowler in the league. A woman I bowl with against in another league bowled a 299 in the early league that night. I was lamenting that I have never had an honor score at all. He told me to just relax on the lane and talk myself through the shots. WELL...Game one..started with a turkey then in frame four I didn't follow the advice..just threw the ball..and got a 6-7-10 split. DARN. Picked up two pins and went back to talking through every shot. Then it happened. 20 strikes in a row. Finished game one with 8 in a row then got my 300 in game two. 265-300 first two games..wow. First ball 3rd game my blood was still pumping and I yanked the shot. Left two pins and covered the spare.....then went off the sheet for a 290.
That's right..265-300-290 for a heart stopping 855 series. I fell to my knees after the last shot and could barely get up.
Thanx for letting me brag a little..lol..keep putting ten in the pit

Thanx for all the support guys. I throw a MoRich Total Shock and Awe 15lbs. I didn't move one board all night last night which is really strange for our house. Started the night in practice standing where I always do..right foot on 26 board..then move left four boards in practice. I'm not a spot bowler at all..which some people hate about me..I tell them I just aim as an area and let her run. Now I'm just trying to keep my average in my other league at 230. I'm currently at 229 and want to be at least one of the top 3 averages in our center.
Keep putting them in the pit

Great shooting. Nice way to get your first honor scores, two in the same night. Keep up the good work. You can never top that post. You should retire on top with that post. Just kidding.

I'm going to get both regular rings. Was going to upgrade but with gold prices as they are now they are pretty darn pricey.
Reality is setting in that I have hit my pinnacle in bowling and should try to take up another hobby. LOL

Pinnacle? You bowled an 855 series. The pinnacle is 45 pins higher.

By the way, there's a ring for that, too! cool

I don't blame you for going with the regular rings. I know if it were me, I'd be thinking of other uses for that money. Just tell everyone as nonchalantly as you can that you might go for the gold rings next time you ring up 2 honor scores in a night.

My first 800, I upgraded to the gold ring. It was the last year for the ABC awards. I looked at it this way, I never know when I am going to do it again. That is just my thinking on.

Either way, getting 2 rings in one night is huge. Expecially when they are of the 300 and the 800 variety.

First of all, congratulations on an outstanding night! Like you, I had one of "those nights" when I shot my 800 4 months ago. I came close to a 300 my last game (ringing 10 in the 8th, solid 4 in the 10th), but the 278 was just good enough to shoot my 803 (268 and 257 were the other 2 games).

I suggest getting both rings gold. You can make payments on them ($70/month for each) and don't have to pay the full price outright. I'm doing that now for my 800 ring. You never know if/when you'll shoot another 800 or even a 300. My 300 ring is that junky "metal-esque" ring they send you. It's not worth wearing and I don't even display it, actually.

My dad has a nice gold ring with the ruby and diamond in it for 300's from when they used to give it to the bowler for free...which when he shot his was back in 1973. He never wears it, but I'll tell you that it's one of the nicest rings I've ever seen.

Even if you never wear it, a gold keepsake is much nicer than the pseudo-metal-looking thing they send you.

When I bowled my 800, like others, I wasn't sure how many other chances I would get. So I upgraded to the gold ring. It is my pride and joy........... until my next honor score.
I too got mine in the last year of the ABC version. I thought it might be a collectors item one day. I paid mine off in installments.

Well..after reading everyone's posts about the gold rings I have decided to splurge on the gold ring for the 800. I was not aware that I could make payments on the rings. I guess I can free up 70 or so a month to get something I will treasure forever. Thanx for the advice all. Keep putting 10 in the pit.

Good move. I made sure I could free up that money to get mine. Who knows if I'll ever shoot an 800 again. Another 300 isn't a certainty as well, but it's not totally impossible to be "on" for 12 balls with a little luck in tow. To do it over the course of 3 games, for most people, isn't as easy.
