Splits like last night one of my team mates he would start a string throwing maybe two or three in row but could get it to go longer every time he did solid 7-10. He must of had mayb three turkey and in between were splits.

Well I am officially in a slump. Opened 4 or the first 5 frames for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, Shot a paltry 465 (145, 164, 156). Amazingly our team went 2-2 after losing the first game by 250 pins.

My mechanics are way off (ball speed varying, missing marks, dropping shoulder) and although I am trying to concentrate it seems as though my concentration slips.

Like I have said I need to ride it out but since coming back and improving week after week to have this happening is really frustrating.

Scott,
Only thing got me out of my slump was practice. I practice on my mechanics. Timming, Speed, and hitting my mark. Just keep on working on it and you get out of that slump i did. Slumps happen wish we could all bowl great all the time.

Brandon,

Thanks for the advice. Having been on a long layoff I forgot how I used to go through slumps like this. I am getting in more practice so I hope to get it turned around pretty quickly.

Sometimes, when it comes to slumps, the best thing to do is not think. Just get up and bowl. Don't worry about your target, just throw the ball. Don't worry about ball reaction, just throw the ball. Sometimes slumps are products of an over-conscious mind. Just getting up there and rolling the ball brings your sub-conscious and muscle memory into the picture.

Scott, anytime I start slumping I make a huge effort to slow my feet down. Almost all my problems stem from fast feet, then timing gets out of wack and the swing is hurried or muscled and well it gets worse from there. When I see scores I'm not use to I get slower than slow, work on the basics and attack it with practice. I use motor right through a bad outing or two, can't remember the last time I've seen a slump for a month or so unless I was injured. Just something that works for me.

Well as luck would have it the skies have opened up and it's snowing nice and steady. I learned my lesson last time, I'm headed to the lanes a good 20 mins early. You know you are either addicted or just a fan of a well cared for house when you are willing to travel an hour plus each way in snow for a night of bowling. For some reason I feel good today, I hope that carries over to the lanes. Good luck bowling all!

Thanks for all your advice. I do have a tendency to be too fast so I need to pay attention to that. I think just throwing the ball may help too because it could be that thinking too much I am doing all these different things on delivery instead of just letting it come naturally.

Very common problem. I do it almost every night! I find myself doing well and I naturally start to speed up my shot. I have to force myself to set before I start so that I can use that first step (my speed step) to get me back on Track.

Scott, we talked about this weeks ago. Slow down and you will be back in the groove.

Two weeks ago, you identified when you slowed down after the first game, your scores improved. You were going to slow down in the first game the following week. Never heard any results until now. Com'on guy, you can do it.

You can't have a good night unless you have had a bad night.
Bowling is a game of averages. You had the low, now for the high.
