around here in michigan a lot of team coaches will take out there high average bowlers if there not going to get near their average. when your taking out of a game in the 5-6-7-8-9 frame the score doesnt go against your average. i dont understand how a bowler is going to improve if he doesnt learn to make adjustments. ofcourse there averages will be high. whats your guys opinion?

I think I need more information...are we talking about high school teams or college teams? I've never heard of a league or team (high school or college) where you can remove bowlers after the 4th frame and take their average.

And as far as I'm concerned, frames 5-9 are the money frames...I've had plenty of times where someone has come out the gate with the front 4 or 5 and I'm sparing, maybe leaving an open, only to have me shoot the back 6 or 7 and run them down.

Whatever it is that you're referring to, it can't be good for either a bowler's psyche to be removed halfway or deep into a game or for his necessity to experience both the good and bad of bowling.

sorry its high school and they replace there high average bowlers with a 6th man and finish the game. there is a couple of bowlers that has a 218 average and in the game there bowling lets say the in the 6th frame and they have an so-so game lets say an 90-100 score the coach will replace him so the score wont go against his average. last year a coach replaced his number 1 bowler in the start of the 10 frame so that the game wouldnt hurt his average.

It all depends on the rules. Since I'm not aware of the rules in which you play its hard to make any comment.

It is, or at least was in the high school bowling association I bowled in, perfectly legal to replace a bowler mid-game for any reason. The replacement bowler took over the game right at the point the other bowler was removed and finished that game and recorded that score.

If, in fact, the move is to keep the bowler's average high, it's pretty dumb to do that, IMHO. I can't see what that accomplishes, other than it makes the coach look like an idiot. If I was yanked for no good reason, I'd have been stomping mad...literally.

I would of left him in. he needs to experiance how it is to bowl bad and learn from it. He might surprise him self and be able to adjust and finish the game on a good note.

They need to expeirence both worlds winning and loosing.

Since I never bowled in high school, I don't know the rules, but it makes no sense to me. If you have 100 in the 6th frame and 'punch out', that's still a 220. If you have 80 in the 6th, and 'punch out', that's still a 200. What's the point of taking the guy out? Sounds like the coach needs a lesson in sportsmanship.

And who is he putting in? If my average is going to take a hit because of someone else's bad bowling, best believe someone is going to hear about it. Having to take over someone else's bad game and it going against my average is preposterous. But that's just me...

I think it is terrible and do not even know why it would be allowed. Plus like everyone else has said how do you know they are not going to hit thier average? I have had over 100 in the fifth and not hit my averge and have had 60 in the fifth and hit way above my average.

To me it would say I do not have faith in you so I am taking you out.
