I was thinking of bowling a Regional PBA event when one comes to my area. I am a 214 average bowler right now. Has anyone out there competed in one of these and if so, is it worth my time? I normally only bowl in the ABCs (I still can't call it the USBCs). I would like to see how I do on a Pro shot and how I compare to them. Or should I wait and see if I can get into a PBA qualifier in the fall?

For $200+, if you can afford it, it will be worth your time. Granted, I have not bowled in a Regional since 2000, before they named their patterns, but I honestly had a great time, and would've had a better time had my finger not split at the knuckle crease. It's at least worth the experience, IMO. If the pattern suits you and you're rolling well, there's a a chance that you could cash. It's not a ton of money, but it's money.

Since the fall is so far away I think that any real competition
would get you familiar and more ready for the PBA.I do know that
you must carry a 200+ ave to qualify. As for the patterns you may
want to ask the manager.

On fridays the center where I bowl does a PBA oil pattern each week. It is not easy to maintain my average, cause the pattern
is so different each week. You must adjust your approach.
I had to ask the manager if they would, and they thought that it
was a good idea.I did however have some others to help convince
them.It took about 3 weeks to get the information in.

I hope that you have the same out come.
Of corse this is just a thought

I believe it's $250 to bowl as a guest, unless your a PBA member then $200, but a great experience.

It's good experience. The fees aren't the same as good old league night but it's one way to test your skills.

Thanks for the advice. Once I get my check from FFL, I am going to put in my entry. I have been talking about it for a while but my wife makes a big deal how I hardly ever do well in tourneys (which is true). I am just throwing the ball so much better now than I ever have before. Plus, my mental breakdowns during a night have decreased dramatically. I used to have 1-2 brain cramp (they censored f a r t???) a game. Now, I am down to 1-2 a night. Even though I am only in one league, my average is now up to 215 (shot 750 last night). The $250 is taken care of right now so the money is not an issue. There is not one close to me until the first weekend in May so it will be a while. When I'm done, I will post how I did. Thanks.

I'll tell ya this, practice your spares... Most of the time if you can stay clean for 8 games, you'll advance.. I bowled 6 stops last year, hope to do at least that many this year. I sure learned a LOT!! Make sure you have your arsenal set..
