Add some that I have missed!

Common Bowling Gestures.

High Five – Good shot or nice try.

Fist to Fist – Way to screw up or that shot was tough.

Hand Shake – Usually customary after a match with another team.
Hand Shake (Sub Part A – Gentle) – We won, Good game!
Hand Shake (Sub Part B – Stern) – Close match, could have gone either way!
Hand Shake (Sub Part C – Rough) – See that ball? That’s 16 pound one? I want it through your skull!

After the Release…

Small Hop – Little off balance, could recover.

Large Hop – Way off balance, prolly pulled it. Channel anyone?

Arm keeps swinging – Good loose arm swing.

Fist in the Air – Lookin good for a strike!

Open palm in the air – Hang on, its gonna be close!

Double palm in the air – REALLY CLOSE

Limp arms to the side – Pulled it/through the nose

Stomp/fist down – Dropped it and its goin to far out.

Stomp + Arms to the side – Lobed it and its still goin through the nose

To one knee – It’s a big frame, and it looks good!

To both knees – It’s the 3rd shot in the 10th and you need that 300!

A loud “#$%@#%^ ^@% %^#$” – Translation: “Shucks! I missed!”

After ball hits the pins…

“WOO!” – Strike or a big spare

“Whew” – Close call or a kiss over

“Esh…” – Usually through the nose, a split of some sort.

“Aw [email protected]” – Big Four!

“Son of a #$%$#@” – Pocket 7-10

“HELICOPTER, EAGLE, AIRPLANE, SWAN!” – Your Randy!

You forget the wave. The general wave "see ya" to the pins that signifies that the ball is a run away; Brooklyn or so far out to the gutter there's no chance in "you konw where" that its coming back.

If I see I'm going Brooklyn, I'll switch my hands and feet at the line and "pretend" I shot it left-handed.

How about body language? Trying to get the ball to hook more or less. Many twists and contortions. One fellow wraps his leg around his slide leg and twists his rolling arm around his body to get the ball to hook.

I can be seen walking back with my head down, shaking, and talking to myself after a missed spare.

A fellow on Wed. Night makes both hands like pistols and shoots the pins after a strike. Two pistols for a strike, one for a spare.

A new bowler rolls his ball, then quickly shuffles backwards on the approach as his ball rolls down the lane.

We have a guy on Thurs. night that flips the bird at the pins after an errant shot....classy eh?
Me I'm more of the body language type, bending over backwards to try and get the ball to come back...it does'nt work though.

"We have a guy on Thurs. night that flips the bird at the pins after an errant shot....classy eh?" by Eraser.

Like it's the pin's fault?

Then there are those gestures that I don't like.

Stomping on the foul line after a miss.
Kicking the ball return.
Punching the score monitor, or banging the table after a miss.
We had one who wears a BBcap, and after a 10th frame miss, he threw it down the alley.
He was warned.
All of these should be subject to reprimand or ejection.

My favorite, and I do it often, is the "Safe!" when the ball is going through the nose and you somehow avoid a split. You know, like a baseball umpire?

I also love to call down the power on a good shot. Fist in the air, then as it hits the pins I ... well, call down the power.

My newest one, which may become my favorite, is variations of extreme happiness when a horrible shot ends up carrying. Like last week, I had one that went out too early and screamed back through the nose leaving a couple pins on both sides (I think 6 and 7) and a messenger took one out, then bounced over to the other one giving me a strike. I jumped up in the air and clicked my heels for that one!

We have one guy on our team, he has a 90+ handicap, runs six or seven steps to the foul line and Lord knows where he is aiming, that will put his right or left arm across his body, hold it with the other hand and point. If the shot is off enough he will walk parallel to the foul line, still pointing, trying to get the ball to move. I saw him one night cross over to the adjacent lane, he was that far off. Everyone knows he is going to do this, so they wait for him to get back to the pit area. smile

We also have a guy on our league that has a simular style as UT Vol's. Its like he's falling down the stairs, and when he gets to the foul line he just dumps the ball off, like it fell off a shelf. Then he poses...its real funny looking. But he does bowl fairly respectable scores. Whatever works.

I really hate those loud mouth types that will bang on the ball returns, slam their balls on the floor etc. Or the guys that get a strike and they hoot and holler and gyrate all over like they just won the U.S. Open or something.
Just look around some nights....its pretty amusing.
