Hi Tyveil, sad to see that I may have infected you with the bowling blues! Sorry about that, Chief! I am presently away from home in Wellington in the North Island. My son is bowling in a tournament and I came up to visit my mother and do some odd jobs around the place and to watch the bowling. We went to the alley this morning, lanes hadn't been dressed from the previous day and we were told they were a bit "rough". We bowled anyway.. the lanes were great! I was able to use my new ball and it worked properly... 491 series for my three games with a high of 169! I might go back Sunday and bowl some more. It was nice to bowl on something that had oil on it and no out-of-bounds on the right hand side. It made me enthusiastic again. Ok.. that be it for me, good luck to all for your next outings. Cheers, Allan

Well... My friday winter league started last night. Last season I finished with a very low 127 average. Over the summer I worked on my game quite a bit and I finished summer with a 158. Last night started with a 180 average (169-211-160). My team did pretty good, we took 5 out of 7. I just hope I'm not setting up my average so high that I can't keep up the rest of the season...

Great start, Lefont. Nothing wrong with starting high, it's a very good incentive to keep your concentration going on league nights. There will be nights when it doesn't all go to plan and they can be a bit of a bummer but those other nights... Bliss! Best of luck and keep us up with your progress. Cheers, Allan

Thanks Allan. I've been feeling pretty confident lately. Hopefully I can carry that feeling throughout the season. Although slumps always happen. I'm also starting another league on wednesday nights which is a more competitive league and we have a pretty good team.
I did get bowler of the week on my friday night league. I was 158 pins above average. And I get free bowling for a week... always welcome.

Yea great start Lefont, keep it up!
I had a very odd night last night. First game in the 130's. Second game a 228 with only one open and 7 strikes. Third game, in the 120's with 1 strike and many multipin spares missed. The lanes were playing very oily again to the point that nobody was hooking but the one cranker. There was no room for error. We took the split and are about the middle of the pack with 4 weeks left but still only a few points behind 1st (nobodys running away with it).

Wow, Tyveil! 100 pin swings??? What was so good in the second game? Crazy game, this bowling thing! Sounds as though you are having some of the problems we have been suffering here, except we usually get any high scores in game one and then it turns to custard! Not to worry... if you can get 228 out of difficult lanes, it bodes well for when you get more friendly conditions. Good luck for your next turn at bat, let us know how it went. Best of luck, too to Lefont for your second league. Free bowling for a week? I'd be living in the place!LOL. Well done. Cheers to all, Allan

Yea the 100 pin swings was the most inconsistent I have ever been. It really felt like I had to hit my mark exactly with the exact speed. Hit it just right - strike. 1/2 a board or 1/2 MPH off.. leave a multipin spare. That second game I was on my mark. The first and third I was only off by a bit, really I felt I bowled a lot better than the score showed, but tons of multipin spares and I wasn't converting them. The whole night had me scratching my head. We'll see how it goes tonight as Monday night league starts and they'll be using my last years 178 average. Hopefully I can bowl somewhat close to that.
Lefont is that free bowling for the week unlimited? I'd be taking vacation time from work

I guess I didn't express myself very well... What is free is the league fees of the upcoming week... hehe... not a whole week of free bowling... I would be taking time off too if that was the case... lol...

Hi folks, back again. Tyveil, I know those conditions very well and I have been just a tad too inconsistent to be able to stay on my mark.. hence low scores. Tonight, the techs had done some serious work to try to get some sort of reasonable playing conditions sorted and they succeeded! Best lane conditions we have had all year. I was able to use my new ball for the three games and the lanes only got tricky mid-way through game three. I managed 165, 144 and 181 (163 av) tonight which is the best I have done for months. There was even a little room for error if I threw a bit far to the right. Magic!! I hope they can keep it up... I might get enthused again!! the 144 was because I didn't make my spares.. thumb sticking was the problem and all the tape was out of the hole. Solved for the last game by not putting my thumb fully into the hole and squeezing a bit. Felt horrible, but it worked!! OK.. good luck to all and looking forward to your posts. Cheers, Allan

Back again! Looks like everyone has gone on holiday for a bit so I thought I would post an update anyway. Since my last post we have had two league nights, the first was on really poor lane conditions again, everyone struggled (in our team, that is) and we got whupped 11-zip. I managed to bowl a 151 average which was acceptable for the night (+2). Tough ol' night at the office, really. Our last outing had much more favourable lane conditions, possibly the best yet and we managed to score 8 of the 11 points available, which was nice as the opposition was the current league leaders. I also managed my first 200 (202) game since early March and averaged 174 for the night... most pleasing. There may be hope for me yet! Ok.. good luck and good bowling to you all. Looking forward to seeing your posts. Cheers, Allan
