There's a senior regional PBA tournament coming up in April about three hours from here in a town where I'll be that weekend. I'd like to know if anyone has participated in a pro/am at one of these events and, if so, what you thought about it and got out of it (fun, challenge, skills development, etc.). Do the seniors do the pro/ams like the regular PBA-ers, is there more (or less) focus on instruction, is there a specific emphasis on senior bowlers?

I assume you're referring the Sr. Regional on April 14 - 16 in High Point, NC. I'll be bowling in the tournament. The Pro-am is run the same for the Sr Regionals as the Denny's or PBA Regional tours. Some find the experience fun, challenging, instructional, etc.; it just depends on why your bowling. Any of the pros will give you advice/pointers if you ask; the main purpose of the pro-am is to give amatures the opportunity to bowl with professionls in a compeditive setting and to meet and interact with on a personal level, and it is usually fun as well as competitive.

The pro-am will be on Friday evening after the practice session. There should be several well known pros in attendence; Geroge Pappas (PBA Hall of Fame), Guppy Troup, Jeff Bellenger, Rodger Bowker, Joe Viscomi, etc all bowled in Florene, SC in January.

The cost isn't bad plan to have fun and bowl. Maybe I'll be one of your pros.

Thanks for the info, Chas. I'm planning to give the pro/am a try, just for the experience. I'll say hi if I see you there.

I'm going to bowl 2 pro-ams in June - one regional and one senior. I am going for the experience since the shots are going to be different at both of them and to see who I can see. I find that if I bowl with better bowlers - my bowling gets much better also. Every time I have watched a pro event in person, I pick up something new to try - so bowling with them is just that much better.

First Strike,

So how did it go? Was it all you thought it would be?

I always take something new away each time I go to one. I especailly like it when I take away a check. smile
