Since I do not live on the East Coast, Duckpin Bowling is only something that I have heard about, and know very little about.

I am wondering if anyone here has any interest in the sport, if they actually do some duckpin bowling, and if they know where one could get a ball and a set of pins.

The reason that I am looking for the ball and pins could probably be viewed as insulting to duckpinners (sorry, if it is.), but they are for the toddler son of a friend of mine. We want him to learn how to bowl ASAP, and a duckpin ball is the perfect size and weight for the tiny tot.

Thanks for any info!

Leslie

Duck Pin bowling is found mostly in Maryland. Interest in the sport has been on the decline as many duck pin centers have closed and lots of it's followers have switched to ten pin bowling.

Coming across a full set of duck pins can be difficult especially since few are made each year and they're very expensive. Getting a duck pin ball would be easier but without the pins it's not that great.

You might be better off ordering one of those In-School Bowling Kits that the YABA/BPAA sell to schools. They're designed to teach children ten pin bowling. They are also on the steep side, I believe they cost around $100-200. If you're interested in that e-mail yababowling@bowlinginc.com , and ask how you can order a "In School Bowling Kit."

The cheapest solutions would be something like the following from Amazon.com:
Stats Big Ten Bowling Set
Big Strike Bowling Set
Silly 6 Pins Bowling Game

I've been duckpin bowling since I was seven. I'm 32 now, and I live in Maryland. I never knew that duckpin bowling was not a nationwide thing. I used to be on a league when I was seven that played every saturday morning. I still have my old duckpin balls. I also recently found an alley that still has duckpins (as geek said, alot of them are disappearing). You may want to call them. It's located in Centerville MD off of route 213 I think, Sorry I don' t know the name,on the eastern shore. They will probably be able to help you out.
