This week we have received a few complaints from people saying that our members or we have been sending them unsolicited messages and messages with malicious attachments.
BowlingFans.com never sends out any unsolicited email! We DO NOT spam. We don't offer public or member email accounts. We NEVER send email with attachments. We don't even send an email newsletter anymore.
If you receive an email which claims to be from us and it has an attachment, DELETE it!We suspect these emails are coming from users' infected computers. Most malware (malicious programs) that infect computers read the user's Outlook or Outlook Express address
book, take a random email or domain name from it, and use that email or domain name as a forged From: address in all the emails it sends out.
When you receive an email from someone that is infected, it could appear to come from an entirely different person.
If you carefully examine the email's headers you will see that it has been forged and has actually traveled through various other mail servers (which should indicate the true sender's ISP) and which also prove that we had nothing to do with the sending of the email.
We urge everyone that uses Windows to go to
update.microsoft.com and download and install all critical or recommended updates. If you are using Windows XP we highly recommend you enable the Windows Firewall.
Please don't think you are fully immune if you just kept your system and anti-virus programs up to date. You still must be suspicious of all file attachments and should never open them until you are sure that it was actually sent by who it says it was sent by. And even then scan it with an updated anti-virus. By the way, we highly recommend
NOD32 Anti-Virus .
