I have a Power Drive ball, pearl cover. I clean my ball after every session. Seems as though the shine is getting dull. I was told to take a good quality car wax, Maguire's, etc., and wax my ball with it. (This was from our local semi-know it all bowler.) Is this a valid product to use on such a ball? Thanks in advance for any replies. confused

No, don't do it. It will not put resin properties back into your ball. It will just make it slip and slide. Just take it to the Pro Shop and have them bring it back up to box condition. Might cost you $10, but it'll be done right.

Waxing it only clogs up the pores of the material. What you'll obtain as a result is similar to an expensive plastic ball (that is reaction wise). The solvents in car wax are designed to interact and bond to paint surfaces and clear coat, and it does the same thing in balls. Pro shops don't use that type of chemicals, in fact, they use sand paper, or abralon pads, or polish, that deep cleans the balls surface, unclogs the pores, and restores the finish.

Think about how your clearcoat finish looks on your vehicle before and after a good, hard hand wax. The sun shines brightly and evenly off the sides, all of the itty bitty scratches have disappeared, and if any of the wax got on the bumper or other plastic parts of the car, only solvent will remove it.
The same with your ball. As Erin said, the ball will just skid down the lane. Kinda like a really big marble. The wax "melts" the outer layer and sets up clear. Reestablishing the clear-coat finish. Take it to the Pro Shop.

Yes, please don't use a car wax on the ball.

Look at Columbia's website for that ball here - http://www.columbia300.com/gear/balls.cfm?bid=192

If you want to get it back to it's original condition, it's sanded with 500 grit and then polished with their 2000 degree polish.

If you use car wax on your pearl ball or any ball for that matter, you might as well be bowling on a hockey rink. Your ball will skid and never react.Let a Pro Shop do it for optimum results. They can put it back in original condition for a few bucks. Its well worth it.
