I use a Nemesis for Oil/Medium and it has a lot of backend. Smooth and Erin are right - you definitely should go with something polished. My brother just picked up an Ambush and loves it. If you want to go with something a little less expensive, my recommendation would be the Storm Tropical. I have a decent amount of ball speed - on a house shot I play the Tropical right up 5 and it kills the pocket. With the dry outside boards, the lane does all the work for me.

Im also a down and in bowler. I use a ebonite bigtime pearl. This ball matches up very well with my down and in shot. It goes long and snaps hard into the pocket! The price is right too! Just my 2 cents, good luck, Triumph

Just a brief update... I've been asking one of my teammates for advice on my ball purchase. He carries the high average for our league, claims to have his PBA card, and once owned a Pro Shop. So, I figured he would be able to help me, especially since he sees me bowl every week. His recommendation was the Smoking Inferno. He claimed the Inferno line was a little bit better set of balls than the BVP line. He usually throws an original Inferno on league nights, and another of my teammates throws a Scorching Inferno. I don't mind the small price difference if it really is going to be a good ball for me.

I'm just wondering what you guys think of the recommendation. Is it too much ball for me? Because my current ball doesn't hook very much, I'm a little afraid that I'll end up with something that will hook right off the lanes.

Tell him you want to stick with the BVP line...

My recommendation is that you stay away from the higher priced reactive balls right now. Going from a urethane ball to a high end reactive ball is like trying to run before you can walk. Since I roll with primarily Storm / Roto Grip, I'd probably recommend something like a Super Sport or Ragin Banshee so that you can get a feel for reactive equipment. I don't know much about the Brunswick lineup, so I can't comment on the BVP line.

I think I'll just tell him that I'm not comfortable paying that much for my next ball. I feel like I can certainly find what I want in the BVP line, or something comparable.

Oh, for what it's worth, the gyro pro I have now is a reactive resin ball... although not very high-end.
