I just bought my first "real" ball a week or so ago, and I want to be sure I take care of it.
I bought the Elite R43.
I have been reading about people people having issues with the reactive cover stocks absorbing a lot of oil and changing very quickly. Losing back end etc..
How big of an issue is this? How can I best defend against it?
I bowl 7-10 games a week. What kind of maintenace should I be doing?

You need to clean it after EVERY session. Ask the Pro Shop where you purchased your ball to suggest a good cleaner. Making sure its cleaned would be #1 preventative maintenence issue to insure the life of your ball.

Zackneden, Eraser nailed it. After every session I clean my Power Drive and spare ball. I am amazed at the amount of oil and dirt balls pick up during the course of 3 games or more. I used to use a Power Groove and it soaked up oil like a sponge. Also, wipe off your ball with a towel prior to every use during a game. Depending on how your house oils the lanes, your ball could pick up a good bit with one throw, plus dirt.
