If I remember correctly, the fist digit is the year the ball was made. At least thats how Columbia USED to have thier serial numbers... each company has thier own coding scheme.

Hello Bowling Fans. Welcome to the Forum "Fgreco".
ExBronx is absolutely right. The first digit in Columbia serial numbers is the year. The second digit is the month. There was a Yellow Dot produced in the Urethane era. But I have to agree with you the you have a vintage 1976 Yellow Dot made in September.
Now, "Fgreco", What color is it, blue, brown or scarlet? I am guessing that it is the bleeder.

High I am bowling joel
I also have a columbia 300 yellow dot. I used it
from 1976 to present. I have it in the closet and
it still fits. I once shot a 289 with it in open
play at a bowling alley next to the i.c station
in Chicago,Il. It's a good ball and may use again
next season. It is 16lbs but I am not worried about that. I have heard the rubber ball, urethane, and plastic are coming back. bowling joel

Hello long time no speak to you. I have a good
and or weird story to tell you. Today i went to
one of the bowling alleys in my hood that I used to bowl in . It is called classic lanes in Morton
Grove Ill. Well the place is completely changed.
It is now synthetic as before it was wood. Well
to make long story short. I had ball in closet,a
track magic which is more aggressive than my mojo.
Also it weighs 16lbs and fits like a glove. I could not control it so I stopped using it. Well
today after last week receiving lessons I tried it
and it worked just fine. I took one game to get used to it and had 111. Then 192 and 189. Do you
think that it is ok to go back to 16 after 14.

Stick to one weight. it will affect your timing switching back and forth between 14 and 16.

Mary Ellen,
I made an experiment last friday bowling 0pen play. I used a track 16 lb ball that is more agg-
ressive but I can now handle it. Before I couldn't
after my lessons I believe I can handle any ball.
I hit the pocket more with the 16 then I ever did
with the 14. I know that sounds strange but it is
true. As long as my body will allow me to do this
I will do it and hope for the best. I have left
my wednsday league and have changed teams on my
sunday. I think my problems were my old teamates.
Let me hear from you on this. bowling joel
