My grandfather just gave me his old Columbia 300 yellow dot he had sitting in his garage for years. It has a few patches but other than that its in great shape. If anyone else uses or has used this ball, or just has any opinions about it, please reply.

It was supposedly a great ball in its time and it really dominated the PBA Tour for years. It's a plastic ball. Nowadays it would just serve as a spare ball, or for extreme dry lanes. laugh

The Columbia 300 Yellow Dot was and is a great ball. While it doesn't act anything like the modern ball, which could be a good thing. it still reacts well on the synthetic surfaces of today and the wood surfaces. I would recommend it for lanes which are obvious walls with a lot of dry boards toward the outside if you want a controlable ball which won't over-react in the back ends. You can throw it slower than the resin balls, so if the arm strength isn't there, you don't have to work so hard to get the ball to skid when the lanes are dry. My bias toward this ball comes from my first 700 20 years ago, a 762 and my high series, about 6 years ago, a 798. To my chagrin, I no longer possess any of the old yellow dots, and don't really think the Legend measured up to the original ball or the bleeders. If you're enamored with the resin balls, as many are, the yellow dot does make a good spare ball, but I wouldn't say the resin balls are better, only different. You can do a lot with a yellow dot that you can't do with the modern balls, but they are fading into the past, I'm afraid.
